Two questions regarding memory on AS8400. The site I'm at has three 2Gbyte modules in each of 2 AS8400 systems. One system has MS7CC-FH The other system has a mixture of MS7CC-FT and MS7CC-FP What is the difference between -FT, FH, FP? Second question: both systems have INTERLEAVE set to DEFAULT. One machine interleaves 2 of the memory modules into SET A and the third module sits in SET B by itself. The other machine crated 3 separate memory sets, A,B, and C, each of 2 Gbyte in size. Both consoles are at 4.0. Why do the two machines interleave the same amount of memory differently? -john

Second Question: It should be interleaving the memory modules as 2 in set A, 1 in set B. When they are interleaved as 3 different sets you are most likely not getting "optimal" system performance. (Though this is very application dependent) Next time you get a chance in console set the interleave to default (again), init the machine, and do a show memory. If you still have 3 sets, looks like you found a console bug. You can do a build -E, and a build -n for EACH processor module (ie 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, ect.) then init and all should be fixed but this WILL blow away and boot defaults, etc that have been set so note this first before you do this. /Dave

Fully interleaved TL memory scores 1gb/sec on McCalpin streams. Uninterleaved scores 1/2 gb/sec.

Reply .1, thanks..that did the trick. Re .2, thanks for the performance info. -john
1102.4 | -FH, -FT, -FP -- indicate DSIM supplier | LANDO::DROBNER | TurboLaser Engineering - 8200/8400 | Fri Feb 21 1997 17:17 | 8 |
Answer to the -FH, -FT, -FP question; The module is a 2GB Memory module (MS7CC-FA), our manufacturing site then use the last character to indicate the manufacture of the DSIMs that are used on that module. /Howard |
