Customer is looking to buy a bunch of 4100s and 8200s, StorageWorks etc. All to stand in a nice line in his shiny datacentre. And he wants a blue 8200, to match his 4100s and his blue StorageWorks. Can I use the 4100 cab panels ? Or what paint should I spray on ? [..this is a serious request - he wants 20 8200s, but blue....] AW

There are a couple of options. First, you can't use the 4100 panels as the side panels on the 8200 are riveted on while the 4100 clip on over a hole in the mounting rail. There are two short term options - paint the cab. The paint specification is DEC STD 092-A154-277. several vendors make paint for our cabs. - buy the equivalent cab from CSS. The customer can choose the exact same configuration or choose a different rear door or any other feature they wish to change. Bob Koontz is the CSS cab product manager and can assist you. If this is for the long term, the first answer of not using the panels may change. There is an effort underway to make the side panels removeable on the H9A10 series of cabinets in which case the panels could be swapped, but that would leave the cab top and base the old colors. I'd recommend buying a CSS cab and using that. David | |||||

Are there any official plans to make this happen, as this is not the 1st time I hear this request? |
