1030.7 | SIMM part numbers? | UTOPIE::OETTL | hide bug until worst time | Thu Apr 24 1997 14:22 | 8 |
| Hello,
I would like to know the FRU part numbers of the 4GB modules.
Since we only have to swap either a SIMM or the whole MS7CC-GA, I need to
know the part number of the SIMM's used.
Thank's in advance,

It is my understanding that the field will NO longer (or this will be
the case soon) be swapping SIMMs. Complete modules will be swapped
due to the vast number of problems that have occured during SIMM
swaps.

1030.9 | SIMM parts number | TKTVFS::YAMAGUCHI_KA | Kazumi Yamaguchi,CSC/Japan | Thu Apr 24 1997 23:12 | 14 |
| Hello,
The parts number of SIMM for 4GByte memory is 54-24723-01.
NEW Support Strategy for Turbolaser 2GB and 4GB Memory Options:
* If fault is isolated via system diagnostics to failing SIMM
- replace SIMM
* If fault is isolated to failing motherboard
- replace Full Memory Option
* If unable to isolatefault to SIMM or motherboard
- replace Fill Option

This new strategy requires swapping out the entire option at the
customer site when the motherboard is defective OR in cases where the
problem cannot be traced down to the defective SIMM.
UNCHANGED Strategy for 128MB to 1GB Turbolaser Memory Options:
* If fault is isolated via system diagnostics to failing SIMM -
replace SIMM
* If fault is isolated to failing motherboard - replace motherboard
* If unable to isolate to failing motherboard or SIMM - replace Full
Option
This change in strategy will eliminate stocking of the 2GB motherboard
(E2036-AA) and 4GB motherboard (E2037-AA), and will require additional
quantities of 2GB and 4GB options (MS7CC-FA and MS7CC-GA) to be
stocked in the territories. As these are very expensive options, it is
critical that
THE TERRITORIES MUST SUBMIT FORECASTS OF OPTION REQUIREMENTS BASED ON
THEIR COMMITTED LEVELS OF SERVICE.
Demand will then be fulfilled within manufacturing lead times.
The SBU will additionally cease marketing of the DEC/VAX 7XXX to
AlphaServer 8200/8400 2GB memory upgrade via swapping of simms from
the 7XXX motherboard to the 8XXX motherboard.
Finally, as outlined in the attached memo, use of the mate tester to
verify failing simms in the field should be immediately discontinued
for all Laser and Turbolaser simms. This includes the 54-21718-01,
54-21724-01, 54-21726-01, and 54-24723-01. Any of these simms
diagnosed as failing by the system diagnostics should be returned to
central defective returns stockrooms for repair before being returned
to the field spares stock.

This is the information we got.
