130.0. "Need crack in Dashboard fixed ..." by IAGO::PROVENCAL () Mon Apr 11 1994 07:20

Hi,

I have a 67' camaro that has a crack in the dashboard. It's about 2-3
inches long. Other than that, the dash is fine. I was wondering if there's
anywhere I could take it to have it patched.. and still look good. I'd rather
not buy a new one right now.

Thanks,

Cathi P.

    Cathi,

    Most auto stores sell a patch kit. It's this polyurethane (sp?) stuff
    that you squeeze into the crack, and then you use a heat stamp to
    cure it..

    I had a cracked dash pad on my '71 dodge demon. There are 2-3 places
    you can send them and have them recovered. I sent mine to "Just Dashes"
    in Van Nuys CA, it cost me about $250 bucks and they did a crummy job,
    so I sent it back and they did another crummy job. I don't know if
    their quality is better or worse than the other companies, but don't
    give them your money!

130.3Get a dash coverSWAM1::MEUSE_DAWed Apr 20 1994 18:038

    Order one of those custom fit dash covers ie Dash King or others. Some
    brands are better. Don't get the velvet finish, it collects dust.

    The only one that will know it's cracked is you.

    Unless you order an entire new aftermarket dash pad, the filler type
    stuff looks bad.

    On my old Mustang I bought one of those preformed plastic molded
    dash covers. It cost $90 a new pad was $180. It fit very good
    and with a careful installation looked and performed like a regular
    dash pad careful scrutiny at the edges would show it was a cover
    but I got many compliments on the dash after it was installed.
    YMMV

    Mopar dashes run in the neighborhood of $80-150 for GOOD used ones for
    A and B bodies. Color is insignificant since they can be satisfactorily
    dyed. I also think someone is reproducing them, either Motor City Originals,
    Year One or The Paddock. All are known for excellence.
