I AM LOOKING FOR A FEW CHEAP,PREFERABLY DO IT MYSELF, MODS THAT CAN BE DONE TO MY 88 FORD MUSTANG(5.0 OF COURSE!!). THE STANG IS STOCK APART FROM FREEFLOW MUFFLERS AND BRIDGESTONE POTENZAS ON THE WHEELS.THE WINDOWS ARE ALSO TINTED TO 5% (VERY BLACK), AND A BRA IS ON THE FRONT TO PROTECT HER FROM STONECHIPS. RUNNING 100% SYNTHETICS DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, WHAT ABOUT THESE SPLITFIRE PLUGS?? SIMON

Check in notes 8.* and 58.* For starters try the following... Set your ignition timing to 13 degrees and run 89 or 92 Octane gas. Remove "air silencer" to allow more air-intake. Buy a K&N Air Filter. If your rotor and dist. cap are old buy new ones, unlike other changes I've actually had measurable improvements doing this. ken

ken:- is that 13 degrees btdc ? exactly where is the air silencer located and how easy is it to remove? when you say you had success, how much of a performance gain are we talking about. incidentatly i always run premium gas, who doesn't in their 5 litre??! simon

The Air intake silencer is located inside the fender right behind the air filter. Just pull the cover off the air filter box, and take out the 3 bolts holding the silencer in. You can then snake the silencer out from under the car. This, along with the other things Ken mentioned were worth about a 1/2 second in the quarter mile in my Mustang. Note that your car will be noticably louder once you remove the silencer. /mike |
