96.0. "Interior Restoration Part Sources" by SSDEVO::DELMONICO () Wed Sep 30 1992 10:13

I haven't seen this note yet so I thought I woulc start.

Does anyone know the best place to get replacement interior parts for

Dodge Challenger? I need the plastic door panels and bucket panels for

a 70 Challenger. They are deteriorated and need replacement during the

   resto process.

  Thanks in advance

Legendary Auto Interiors specializes in MoPar interiors. I used them
for my 70 `cuda. Excellent quality and good prices. I believe they
supply interior goodies to Year One and other restoration companies. I
also read in a recent Hemmings that they now have door panels for most
models (B and E bodies). Give 'em a try.

I have just purchased the new upholstry to put on the front buckets and
rear seat of my 67 camaro. I figured I would attempt to install it
myself,... and if unsuccessful then I'll have to pay someone to finish it.

Anyways, I was wondering if I should leave the seats in the car, or take
them out. What would be the easiest. My husband seems to think that
professional upholsterers would remove the seats and put the new
upholstry on (seat covers w/ hog rings).. but I can't believe that they
would remove the seats, cover them, then put them back.

Does anyone really know how they do it? And,... how hard it will be for
me to do it? I assume taking the old covers off should be fairly easy.
I also bought the professional installation kit (supposed to include
the hog rings and a good pair of hog ring pliars).

Thanks,

Cathi P.

I'm getting spring fever and want to get the car on the road sooN!!!!! so
I can enjoy it.

Cathi, they yank the seats out and work on them on a bench. Makes life
much easier for them (and their backs!) :-)

Plus you'll probably find that the new upholstery doesn't look good
next to the surface-rusted seat bases. You'll want to clean them up
and repaint them which can easily be done on a bench once the old
    upholstery is removed.

    Cathi,

The seats must be removed! I tried to install the covers myself without
success. There is an art to installing seat covers.

You also should consider buying new foam foundations for the seats. 25
years of use takes its toll on the foam.

Thanks for all the input.

I was able to install the seat cover on the back seat (back rest) portion..
but did not want to attempt the bottom seat part (looked trickier). So
I removed the old cover and brought the seat & new cover down to
Wachusett Seat Cover in Fitchburg. 2 hours later, it was all done,
and looked great. and it only cost me $20 ! But.. I think I might try
the front seats myself.. and if all else fails.. I'll just make another
trip down to Wachusett Seat cover. By the way... the lady down there told
me that they use a steam machine.. but that I could also use a hair dryer
on the back of the new cover.. which softens the vinyl so that it is easier
to stretch over the seat.. then once it's on.. it will tighten back up!

96.9Great job - Wachusett Seat CoverIAGO::PROVENCALMon May 02 1994 11:3710
Well,

I decided not to re-upholster the front bucket seats. Instead..
I brought the new covers down to Wachusett Seat cover in Fitchburg and
had them do it. Cost me $120 but was well worth it. They did
a GREAT job! And.. I still have my sanity. Well, whatever's left of
it, anyways.

Cross one more thing off the list.. lots more to do!
