2775.0. "A beginner needs some good recommendations
" by HVNBND::THOMAS (I'm Just Waitin' on Heaven) Tue Nov 26 1991 09:06
I am one of those victims of the late '60's when your momma
made you take those piano lessons when you really wanted
to be outside riding your bike, playing ball or even diggging
in the dirt making roads with your Tonka trucks and motorgraders.
Now that I've seen the light, in more ways than one and since
I am involved in my churchs' choir, I have the need and
desire to learn music again. Well, since I work with computers
for a living now and so does my wife, we thought that maybe
a PC with a midi card in it with some music software and possibly
somewhere down the road a synthesizer with a midi interface in it
would be the ideal self-training media.
The questions I have are:
- What would be the most recommended Midi card. Is it the
Sound Blaster Pro?
- What about music software?
- Then for later down the road, what about the synthesizer.
Should I look at one with the 3 1/2 inch floppy disk drive
like the Peavy DPMse3 or something more in line with the
Yamaha PSR400/500M?
The synthesizer is the part that I want to make sure I get right the
first time if at all possible.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You might try looking at a directory of the conference and
see what has already been discussed in this area. try
looking at a list of KEYWORDS and see what tickles your
fancy. Also, most MIDI cards for a PC are soundless though I
think that some of the synth cards are also midi cards (?).
good luck
