2736.0. "wanted: info on digital pianos, music stores in Boston area" by TECRUS::FROMM () Mon Sep 30 1991 12:48
I'm looking to buy a digital piano and would like to know if anyone has
information on:
1) good music stores to shop at in the Boston area
2) particular brands and/or models that you like
From looking around a bit I've found that most music stores have a really big
selection of guitars and amps, but a rather limited selection of good quality
digital pianos. Let me describe just what I'm looking for...
I want a keyboard with 88 full-sized, fully-weighted keys. I'm looking for
something with a couple of piano, electric piano, and organ instrument sounds
built in. I don't care too much if it has a ton of other sounds, because
sometime in the future I plan on getting a separate MIDI synthesizer. Oh yeah,
it has to be fully MIDI compatible (IN, OUT, and THRU). A couple of effects
would be nice (chorus, reverb, etc.), but again, this isn't too important, as
long as there's room to expand later. Ideally, I want something that has a
playing feel and sound of a real piano. I'm not too concerned about it having
a really powerful output, because I'm probably going to hook it up to an
external amplifier. One more thing - it can be a little big and heavy, but it
HAS to be portable.
Although I don't have an infinite amount of money to spend, I'm more concerned
about quality than price. ($1500 to $2500 is a ballpark figure that I'd like
to spend, but I could go a bit higher if necessary)
Any suggestions?

| Use of keywords will lead you to a variety of topics that will answer
your questions. I suggest checking "DEALERS", "GETTING_STARTED" and
"PIANOS" for starters. Also check under the name of any instrument you
may be interested in (ex: "RD300").
I hate to seem like a curmudgeon, but this topic can best serve
everyone as part of an existing string of notes.
