Mayhaps it's one of those weirdly shaped little orchestral sample

Nah, it's some kind of follow-on to the M1. It doesn't sound nearly as good as
my classic O3s. In the store, I got the impression that it uses shorter
samples than the M1. I heard less animation to the sound.

The store probably had the setup wrong ;-) Just about every parameter or sound
for the O1/W synth can be altered or customized. Take one home for a real test
drive....and you may begin to agree with me.

I paid much less......I had store favors...but it can be had for
anything between $1500-$2000.
The competition in New York City is so fierce that it is almost a
buyers market.

| Hi, I'm Kent (in canada) I'm kind of new at this "notes" stuff, (but
then again, I'm kind of new at Digital); but Ive been listening on this
conference fo a couple of days.
Anyway, To the point!!
I tried th 01/w at Steve's music in Ottawa and was extremly impressed
with the flexibility and dynamics of the sounds. It has expounded upon
many of the features of the M1 and is certainly much more capable. I
think it out does the more expensive SY77 and I'm a diehard Yamaha
fan!!
As far as the price goes, I can get it up here for about $2200-$2400
and I hav'nt even really looked. So there must be some pretty good
prices at large dealers in the US.
I am just waiting for my local dealer (Moncton Music, Moncton New
Brunswick) to recieve the one they have on order so I can experiment
more before buying.
Kent.

2724.9 | Watch Out For The "FD" When Comparing Prices | RGB::ROST | Bill Graham, RIP | Wed Oct 30 1991 12:59 | 11 |
| The price will vary depending on whether you get the FD model (with
floppy drive) or not. The FD model also has a larger sequencer
capacity. What I haven't heard yet is what the heck this new
"waveshaping" business is supposed to be. I get kind of sick of names
like "AI synthesis" and "L/A" when they are really nothing new or
different.
Interesting how Korg has firmly seized the high ground (pricewise)
lately. This was the same company that brought us the Poly 800, right?

I am glad you noticed what I noticed too...;-) I spent several days comparing
the Korg O1/W to almost every new synth in its price range out there and,
nothing even came close......Programming it is a real breeze.

| Maybe the presets in the one I tried were, uh, presets. I heard a guy playing
the most amazing orchestral horn ensemble patch on one the other day. It had a
lot of nice subtleties.

2724.14 | Does the O1/W have the VOICE MUTING feature? | TARKIN::TING | Albert Ting | Tue Nov 26 1991 12:59 | 6 |
| Does anybody know if the Korg O1/W has this feature? On the Ensoniq SQ2, it
has a VOICE MUTING feature. Notes that are sustaining from previous sounds
will continue to play as long as the keys are down. This way, if you change
sounds, your previous sounds won't get cut off.

| Korg has showed some new versions of the O1 family at NAMM.
o the O3R: single rack space, no sequencer, sort of what the M3R was
to the M1
o a 76-note version of the O1/W
o an 88-note wooden key version of the O1/W

>o the O3R: single rack space, no sequencer,
I haven't figured out how to gang up more than 8 multi-timbral
(midi) channels without switching to sequencer mode. I don't
use the sequencer directly to program tracks....I use it so Studio
Vision 1.32 (Opcode Sequencer on Mac) can play as many instruments
(timbrals) as possible. I can get all the 16 midi channels going
simultaneously when I program Studio Vision's internal clock to speak
to my Korg O1/W via the O1/W sequencer channels....strange...
Unless there is some weirdness with my Opcode Studio 3 Midi interface.
I am driving both modem and printer ports on my MacII ci - the OW/1 is on
the modem port (diasy chained with other outboard gear)..and my Yahama
RY/30 drum machine module is sharing the printer port with my Yamaha
DX 21 synth and other gear.
Did they fix this problem with the rack mount moudule (O3R)?
