Ravi - the 644 is the four track version of the 688. It only has 4
tracks and it lacks the meter bridge, but otherwise the capabilities
are supposed to be the same. The 688 has individual track outputs as
well as a stereo pair - don't know about the 644. The 688 also has
more effects sends, I think. Maybe one of the other 688 users can
remember what's on the back panel. Oh yeah, the 688 (and probably the
644) allow the drive to sync to an external master.

The 644 does, but the 488 does NOT and that's one of the biggest
reasons stopping me from buying one (having no money for it is another
but...).

| Well that's to be expected, the 488 is a very scaled down version of the 688.
Looked a bit cheezy to me as well, but maybe that's 'cuz I have the 688..
