Pioneer Japan has announced a writable CD system to be available this
fall at a price of about $1460. It will be called CD-R and will allow
a one-time write capability. Playback will be compatible with all CD
players; the Pioneer unit will play as well as record CDs. It will
also have SCMS (groan).
Pioneer and Taio Yuden (this name is familiar, can't remember who it is
though) will be manufacturing the blank CD-R disks. No mention in the
article about the price per disk.
