I'm considering buying a sub-woofer system to add to my current system.
Currently I'm using 2 RAMSA WS-200 speakers (rated at 80Hz-20KHz).
I've checked out the Ramsa subwoofer system (WS-A240 subwoofer and the
WS-SP2A processor). I realize that I need another channel (or 2 for
2 subwoofers) of amplification.
What other choices do I have? Anyone with experiences (good or bad)
with these? Do all subwoofers require a "processor" or do some just
use a crossover or similar "passive" method of isolating very low
frequencies?
Applications are (1) keyboard amplification, (2) DJing, (3) occasional
use of drum machine through system.
Any comments/advice/suggestions welcomed!
Thanks,
Jim

"processor" = "active crossover". You might find that active crossovers work better. You need a beefy passive crossover otherwise, those lo frequencies are quite high on RMS wattage. As for how it sounds (active vs passive), I haven't really been able to tell the difference, especially in an environment with lots of extraneous noise (like while DJing, gigging, etc). fwiw, /pjh | |||||

Hmm, the processor goes BEFORE the power amp ... I see how this is
different from "passive crossover" which goes AFTER the power amp.
RAMSA's processor lets the subwoofer (amp) see frequencies below
about 125 Hz. . .
