2629.0. "Bars & Pipes Professional" by CERN::EJM (Rick N. Backer) Thu May 02 1991 09:54

Well, I couldn't resist just putting in a note to 'review' the new Bars & Pipes
Professional. I just got my AMIGA 3MB RAM, 40MB HD on Monday, and the ECE MIDI and
B&P Pro last week.

WOW!

First let me thank all those noters out there who helped me make what I now
consider to be a *very* wise decision. Without you guys, well, it could have
been alot worse.

Also, let me warn you, although I have been playing music for years (Guitar,
Piano, Trumpet) and had my share of bands, I have only been reading about MIDI
up until now and aticipating (with a worm on my tongue) that fateful day when I
would finally save up enough money to TAKE THE PLUNGE!!

Well that day has arrived. I'll list below some of the features I've read/discovered
so far. These are the ones that are impressive to me, but they might seem pass to
you.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

* Tracks & Pipes Philosphy

	- input notes flow in through the input pipe
	- any number of tools can be combined, macroed etc along the input
	  pipe
	- input pipe tools process midi data before it is stored; thus it is
	  permanent, in the sense that the information as effected by the tools
	  is stored as part of the song
	- ouput pipe tools change music as its passed to the sound module but don't
	  effect the stored info
	- pipes can pipe info from one track to another
	- the number of tracks is infinite (memory dependent)

* Windows

	- tracks
	- track edit
	- song construction
	- timing
	- transport controls
	- metronome
	- etc.

* Scoring & Printing

	- Classical Notation
	- Hybrid - notation
	- piano roll
	- lyrics
	- chords
	- key signature
	- time signature
	- velocity

* Features

	- loop recording + transposition or modulation
	- play a section backwards
	- fit everything into a given time
	- complete link to SMPTE/Video scoring
	- create own chords
	- create own tools
	- etc.

I can't remember anymore but ask and I'll respond.

	OK, here goes;

BACK-GROUND:

	For totally "professional" reasons I will be bringing my
Amiga into the office next week {Yeah, its REALLY for work}. After my
presentation I would like to show off Bars and Pipes and a few
Amiga'isms to whoever wants to hang around. I don't want to haul
SGUs, amps and speakers to work, so I'd like to use the Amiga's
internal sounds. I also have the Bars and Pipes demo that I
downloaded from the Amiga conference, it has an Instruments sub
directory, and of course it plays through the "AmigoPhone" tool.

QUESTION:

	How can I lift the "AmigoPhone" tool from the demo and install
it into Bars & Pipes ? Clue: I seem to have tried most of the
obvious copying tricks, and loading from the demo's directory - - I
think my question is around how to connect/link it/ make B&P
understand that its there..... ????

{I just wanna start a demo tune and then click the B&P screen to
back-ground while I show off some games - easy if I haul SGUs, amps
and speakers around - I know}

2629.2Put it in S:/Tools I thinkCERN::EJMRick N. BackerThu May 02 1991 12:107
Either put the tool in S:/Tools (Ithink,I know so little about AMIGA DOS and I
can't remember exactly what the name of the directory is) or pop up a Tools
window and activate the Load Tool... menu item. This will give a file selection
box from which you can find a tool. It isn't clear to me, however, if this Amiga
Phone thing is going to be understood by B&P.
