I like the voices on the Kawai, its midi, and playing full size
keys as opposed to mini keys should convince most keyboard players.

2586.2 | I bought an FS680 and like it so far | DDIF::MEAGHER | Bob Meagher, ZKO2-2/O23 | Tue Mar 05 1991 19:46 | 11 |

I just purchased an FS680 for exactly those reasons.
I'm also a newcomer to MIDI, and am looking for
information on the SysEx formats for the FS680.
The user manual, aside from a sparse MIDI chart at
the back stating that SysEx is implemented, mentions
no details about that implementation. Any information
or pointers appreciated.

| I've not seen the Kawai, but the 790 is most impressive for the price.
I like the sounds, I like the Vector Synthesis it employs, lots of the
accompniaments seem useful (make's a change). The thing is, unless you
have a Computer and sequencer software you will soon get bored (6
months?).

| I'm intending to hook it up to my ATARI ST, so that should keep it
interesting. I don't know if there's any decent PD software around
though.
Sounds like the Kawai has the vote so far though.
Thanks for the comments... please keep 'em coming!
Cheers,
Jamie.

2586.5 | Kawai's earlier home units used the K1 engine | RANGER::EIRIKUR | | Wed Mar 06 1991 12:44 | 7 |
| About that FS680, I suspect that it may be very similar to a K1. I
know that the PH-50, a similar Kawai home keyboard, is really a K1
engine. You could call Kawai about getting a SysEx chart. Or, if
there is a manual dump command, you could scope out what it is sending.
