2579.0. "Value of Old Moog?" by UNXA::LEGA (Saddam's Insane) Thu Feb 21 1991 17:08

	Any care to venture a guess on how much an old Moog Modular
	synth is worth. It consists of a single cabinet and keyboard
	with 3 VCOs, 1 LFO, 1 HPF, 1 LPF, 3 ADSR, 3 patch point tie
	modules, 1 module for CV attenuation, 1 module for feeding
	in the Keyboard. Its all in a wood cabinet with power supply.
	It works, It drifts a little. Physically its about
	5'W x 2'H x 1.5'Deep, and about 70 Lbs. It sounds classic.

	I'm not looking to sell, but my poor alma mater (Moravian
	College, Bethlehem PA) has one and we are trying to figure
	out how to get them a Mac, and selling off the Moog and
	smaller Electrocomp unit may be the ticket. (They have
	almost no cash for equipment).

	I'd appreciate any insight on the Moog and acquiring Mac
	and Midi equipment cheap for a worthy cause.

2579.1Sounds like a nice thing for old people like me....RANGER::EIRIKURFri Feb 22 1991 13:5210
    This unit has more nostalgia value than usefulness today. It might be
    worth as much as $1000.00 to a collector. I'd be interested in it, but
    couldn't go that high. You might check some issues of Keyboard and
    Electronic Musician, and look in the classifieds for places that sell
    old modular gear. Get them to quote you a price they would buy it at.
    Their selling prices always seem ridiculously high to me--I doubt you
    could sell it for as much.

    Here in Holland there aren't many modular Moogs out for sale. Therefore
    prices can go up to as much as 3000$ for the set-up you describe (in
    relative good working order and not looking like Keith Emerson took it
    with him on all of his world tours...). Recently an ARP2600 was sold in
    Amsterdam for 2500$

    The Japanese seem to have developed a fetish for these things. It
    might be worth quite a bit in Japan...

    One might say they have a "yen" for old gear...
