2517.2 | The 1.44MB drive on the DECstation can write Atari disks | PRNSYS::LOMICKAJ | Jeffrey A. Lomicka | Tue Dec 11 1990 16:57 | 11 |
| There's a "trick" to getting the PC to format and read/write to 720K
floppies using it's 1.44MB drive. If you get the trick, (something like
FORMAT/TRACK=9) then your Atari-owning friend can read your 720K
floppies with no problem. Use standard midi files and most Atari
sequencers can read them. Note that in most cases you will have to
format the floppies on the PC, otherwise you can read and write them on
either the PC or the Atari without interchange problems.
I knew the trick once, and will try to find it again, unless somebody
pipes up here with the answer before I do.

| Yeah, but can I use Kermit to dump the stuff up to my VAX and across
the network to his ? I figured in this world of high-tech
"sneaker-ware" would be kinda obsolete.
Appreciate the input on formating Atari disks though !

| Re: formatting
There are some notes in the IBM_PC conference concerning this, go there
and try dir/ti=format or dir/ti=disk.
Re: Kermit
Yes, if you can transfer MIDI standard files over the net, you're all set.
