2509.1 | New MIDI controlled 1U mixer from Mark of the Unicorn | RANGER::EIRIKUR | Eirkur Hallgrmsson | Wed Dec 05 1990 15:17 | 12 |
| Jim,
You might be interested in something that I just heard of at lunchtime.
A 1U rack mixer from Mark of the Unicorn. Seven stereo inputs, 2 stereo
send/returns, aux in/outs for linking multiple units. Volume, pan, and
bass/treble on each channel. Something about gain adjust per channel, too.
Totally MIDI controlled. The brief mention (Guitar Showcase flyer) implied
that it had few, if any, front panel controls beyond a headphone output.
Price was quoted at $595.00

What kind of volume pedal? I hear that Morley makes a good volume
pedal, stereo (2-channel) or dual stereo (4 channel). Do you
run from mixer OUTs to pedal then to power amp?

Actually I have two to choose from:
I have a Morley Volume - Wah - Fuzz and a Morley Pan Pedal which
also can be used as a stereo volume pedal.
I general take the stereo volume because it uses batteries whereas
the volume/wah/fuzz requires line power (I.E. more complexity).
> Do you run from mixer OUTs to pedal then to power amp?
Yep.
Note however that a volume pedal would require one more cord to run
than something like the Yamaha MV. Knowing our mutual regard for
simplicity, that should be a consideration.
However the reason I went with a volume pedal was because that way
I could get the capability without severely limiting my choice of
mixers (not many mixers do that, and the ones that do tend to be
expensive and not have the other features I wanted). I also happened
to have these volume pedals anyway and they weren't being used much.

| Not to get too side tracked ... but how long will a Morley pedal run
on a battery? I.e. how often do you need to replace the batteries?
Also, I noticed in the mag's that Morley makes 2 "grades" of pedals,
one that's about $70 for stereo volume, and another (with a low, wide
base) that is about $125 for stereo volume. Know anything about this?
Thanks,
Jim

2509.8 | Morley "compact" | GLOWS::COCCOLI | monitoring reality | Thu Dec 06 1990 18:05 | 11 |

Morley also makes a "compact" mono volume pedal which doesn't even
use batteries. Cost is approx $58. No appreciable loss of tone or
volume. I use it mostly for guitar.

2509.9 | If the truth be known... I can't answer that | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | Dave | Fri Dec 07 1990 08:20 | 14 |
| Jim,
If the truth be known, my batteries last up til the point that I
accidently leave the thing turned on overnite!
I've never managed to run out a battery merely with normal use.
The stereo volume pedal actually takes TWO 9 volts. I think one
of them is only to light the LED because the pedal seems to work
even when that battery is dead (I often don't even bother replacing
it).
I just have a slew of rechargables that I keep charged up (along with
backup regular non-rechargables) in my gig bag.
