| Hi, PAT !!
> Are you sure that's not the S1000 ?
I'm sorry I couldn't understand this meaning.
So I'll write here again the same thing.
AKAI sells S1100, not S950, not S1000 in Japan.
> I will buy the AKAI S950 perhaps will I buy the S1000 in One Hundred
> Years .
I have KORG DSS-1, that has sampling tool. But sampling time is
not so long. Also, sampling is so difficult for me. I hope the
source and environment is important on sampling.
Well, just aside from this topic, I have my acappella tape.
If you are interested in it, please let me know by mail.
I'll send it to you. All song is English, so you can enjoy, I hope.
Please let me know if you buy S950.
Thanks

2433.10 | Is it cheap or expensive ? | TKTV20::SHINKADO | ACAPPELLA | Tue Sep 25 1990 21:05 | 23 |
| Hi, Patrick. This is speedy Hiro.(Does this have another meaning ?)
Well, I'll reply to your request.
In Japan, one dollar is about 137 yen now.
AKAI S950 fixed price is 243,000 yen in Japan.
So in dollars, it's about (243,000/137=) 1773.7 dollars.
Is it expensive or cheap ? Wait. We can buy in discount price.
Well, Normally musical instrumentals are 15%-20% discount,
so we can buy S950 about 1418.9-1507.6 dollars.
Is it enough ? If you have another information request,
please let me know,
P.S I'll teach you some Japanese.
Good bye ---> SAYONARA (You know)

| I've got iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit HIRO .....
I received it yesterday evening and went to ber at Half past Twelve.
I had some problems to load Disks in the Sampler at first but I
did it corectly about one Hour later.
You know that the S950 is able to use the S1000 sounds without
problems!!!!!.
The most important thing to know is that the S950 only recognize
the ORIGINALS DISKS OF AKAI .If for example you copy an original
DISK made by AKAI on a S1000 you won't be able to load it with
a S950.....
I think the USER'S MANUAL should be more clear.
When you never used a sampler before it's impossible to understand
all the fonctionnalities at first time.
I was lucky to know Synthesizers since a few years and computers
too.
My Music DEALER gave me a box with about 30 Disks for S950 and
80 for S1000 and will give me again the same number of Disks soon
imagine ..........
I will tell you my operations on this new instrument.
But the first sounds I heard were GREAT ... I heard a sound of an
HAMMOND ORGAN , I was on my chair and I'd nearly fall on the floor...
I hope to discuss with you soon on the NET.
But if we talk about AKAI for a long time ,I think we shoud do it
by MAIL.
My MAIL adress is . TDCIS3::RENOUVEL

I'll teach you one thing about how to use "SAN".
We don't use "SAN" ourselves. We use "SAN" when we call person's
name, for example, "PATRICK-san" or "Jim-san".
So, please put "SAN" after the name except yourself, right ?
And about tax, in Japan, normally 3%. Everything 3%. Is this enough ?
I might have said before, I have DSS-1, sampling synthesizer.
I also feel sampling is funny.
By the way, what kind of music do you play or record ?
Have a good sampling midnight !!

Note 2748.0 AKAI S950 Programing Problem .. No replies
EVOAI2::RENOUVEL 30 lines 14-OCT-1991 09:22
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Specialists
I bought a AKAI S950 Sampler and still have two problems :
- The first one is what Have I exactly to do to play several
instruments on different Channels (MULTI)
- The second is most difficult to explain :
Imagine that I play a C on my Master Keyboard ,
the first time I hear it on the Left Loud Speaker, second time on the
right etc ... the sound arrives sometimes on the Right side ,sometime
on the Left one ..
What could I do ?.
Thanks for your Answers..

2433.16 | | SALSA::MOELLER | think of it as sense,not surrender | Mon Oct 14 1991 14:34 | 7 |
| I don't know exactly what steps you take to get your 950 to respond in
MULTI mode.
But the 'random pan' problem you pose should be easy. Assign an LFO to
modify the pan position.

2433.17 | New noter and S950 owner... | LARVAE::RICHARDS_P | | Wed Feb 19 1992 08:15 | 20 |
| I have an S950, so I thought this note would be a good place to ask my
question, namely:
Is there sample-editing software available that allows you to
upload a sample from the RS232 port on the sampler into a PC or
something and then edit the sample graphically ? If these things exist,
what PC's do they run on ? (Atari, MAC, IBM, etc)
Paul. (UK-based new noter in COMMUSIC).
PS: If the previous questions haven't been answered elsewhere...to get
the S950 to respond in MULTI mode you just need to specify in your
program the channel offset from the base channel for each sample in the
program. The PAN problem sounds as if the stereo outputs are being
used. If you don't specify one of the eight outputs for a sample in the
program, the dynamic assignment will sometimes go left and sometimes
right...if you need more info on this just ask.

2433.18 | Alchemy, for one | DYPSS1::SCHAFER | Name something that floats. | Wed Feb 19 1992 13:14 | 12 |
| There are several good sample-editing software packages on the market.
The one that comes to mind right off the top of my head is Alchemy.
digidesign also makes a package, but I don't remember the name. Most
good packages of this sort or Macintosh-based.
Try looking under keywords SOFTWARE or SAMPLING, or check out the (very
large!) DIR BY KEYWORD topic located in the 1st 20 notes in here.
And welcome.

| Paul, waveform editing packages have been around quite a while.
Digidesign has offered a MAC based package, loading/dumping samples
using the MIDI port (can you say 'slow'?) or the RS422 port.
And the S900/950 are really popular, so I bet you'll have little
problem.
I have to imagine there are VGA-style sample editors for MAC. You can
also import samples done on other machines, using Standard Sample file
format.

| I agree with what the previous noters have to say. I use Sound Designer
and Alchemy both extensively. I have landed some remixing contracts that
would have been impossible to present my demos using standard tools.
The new version of Alchemy can even act as a front-end to Digidesign's
Sound and Pro Tools....

Alchemy can go as low as $400...kind of pricey but very powerful product.
Most Sound Designer users that I know usually buy some kind of complete
audio production system from Digidesign Inc.....usually Sound Tools (designed
for use with the Macintosh II, SE, and Quadra series. Sound Tools consists
of 4 components: The Sound Accelerator digital signal processing card, AD IN
analog to digital convertor, DAT I/O interface and Sound Designer II audio
editing software. Together, these pieces form a complete hard disk-based
recording system with DSP capabilities. Price is well over $2000! Many
Sound Tools hackers will tell you that it is worth every cent ;-)

hardware and extended stereo sampling to the MAC's hard disk.. way
outside the scope of the request.
You'll do fine with the base Digidesign sample editing program..
Alchemy is a bit much for someone with ONE sampler to deal with.

Karl...I can always learn something new...which "base Digidesign sample

Does Digidesign unbundle the 'sample editing program'?

| >Does Digidesign unbundle the 'sample editing program'?
Yes, this is the original sample editing program. It was meant
to accept samples via MIDI SYSEX or directly in the serial
port, manipulate onscreen, and download back to the sampler..
It predated any "sample in stereo using our board to your MAC/PC
hard disk" packages that are out there now.
Contact a knowledgeable music store or Digidesign themselves (see
any music comix, they're regular advertisers).
