2411.0. "ORGAN TO PC" by UKCSSE::PARKER () Fri Aug 10 1990 07:37

	I'm new to this high tech music stuff and to MIDI. I'm basically a poor
to medium piano player who has graduated to organ, cos I can produce more
"noise". I don't play from ear or memory, only from those little dots on the
printed page.

	I have a Yamaha HS-6 organ and a 386 based PC, the HS-6 has MIDI in
and out capability.

	What I would like to do is:-

	1.	Connect Organ to PC such that the PC can memorize what I play.

	2.	Edit what I want to, and play back via the organ. ( Is this
		called score edit facility? )

	3.	Edit ,or generate, rhythm, and all other "accompaniament", so
		I can play alnong with it. ( 4-bar repeat, and whole song )

	4.	Have a library of Organ Registrations I can pull in.

	Can I do this?

	What do I need ?

	What do you recommend ?

	Cost ?

    Ken, it's Ken!

    I've just done something similar with my HS-8. In April I bought
    an Atari 1040 and Notator from C-Labs. This does every thing you
    mention, except I haven't figured out how to do registration or
    sequence dumps from the organ to the pc.

    Good luck with project.

2411.2PC Music card is one answer SAURUS::KAIMon Aug 13 1990 15:2410
    IBM has a card that plug into PC that will allow you to do what you
    want. The card was designed and built by Yamaha and has basically has
    the guts as an FB-01 with preamplifier and a MIDI interface built in
    that would allow you to talk to other MIDI equipments. By running
    some music application software on the PC, it allows you to do a lot
    of fancy things, including what you want to do. If you are interest
    in finding out more info on the card. Send me a message directly and
    I will provide more.

2411.3Music Studio 3.0VULCAN::SMITHFri Aug 17 1990 07:4411
    If you are in the UK, Datel Electronics in Stoke-on-Trent, supply
    a product called Music Studio 3.0 which consists of a MIDI interface
    card will a lot of software already on it, plus 3 floppy disks
    containing the rest of the software. I use it on a HS-4 and previously
    used it on a HE-6. It's very easy to use and will do live recordings
    and playback. It costs 99 quid. I'm located at the Solent Business
    Park office but live in Stafford, so depending on where you are
    you might like to try it.

	Thanks for the info on Music Studio 3.0

	Can you edit the recording before playback ?

	Does the recording come up on the screen in conventional music notation?

	Can you record Registrations and pull them back?
