2393.0. "E-Mu Proformance Piano Module" by AQUA::ROST (Get up and get hip to the trip) Wed Jul 18 1990 10:50

Here it is, the followup to Proteus...

The E-Mu Performer 1 piano module. 16 bit true stereo samples.
    Half-rack size, at a list of $499!!!

OK, this is one box with *no* readouts (except a power LED), just five
    knobs:

    Volume

    Tuning

Transpose (up/down one or two octaves, or transpose to any key within
    one octave)

    MIDI Channel

    Preset (1-15 plus "MIDI")

And guess what, in true Proteus tradition, there is also the Perfomer
Plus with added samples of electric pianos, organs, vibes, electric and
acoustic basses (no price given on this puppy).

Who knows when this will arrive in stores....

I checked with E.U. Wurlitzer in Worcester yesterday, they will
be carrying both modules, the guy thinks they may be in the store
by "early to mid-fall". He thought that the Proformance Plus module
would be $100 to $200 more, and he said that their representative
who heard both of them at the NAMM show described them as "incredible"

    looking forward to hearing these

    "Incredible". My fave music cliche.

Proteus grand RAW samples are fairly good, but have a short
decay time relative to the MKS-20...(so maybe they use some others?)

Still, the chance NOT to lug around the dual-space all-metal MKS would
be welcomed....(but does it have a good DX-ish, and real-ish RHODES?)

Then again, isnt that price even higher than what one could get
a Kurz PX with the (ahem.) "incredible" Kurz piano...????

    	Well...hey, maybe it sounds incredible...

It *would* free up some rack space....

Proformance/1+ (enhanced version) will be $599 list.

Don't have to wait for this Emu thing - the Roland P-330 (follow-on
to MKS-20) is single space and much lighter than the MKS-20.
2393.9excellent soundsMIDI::DANDan Gosselin, HyperHelp developmentThu May 02 1991 11:1020
I tried one of these things at Daddy's in Nashua recently and I have to admit,
it's got (by far) the best *overall* piano sounds I've heard coming from an SGU.
(some of you have heard me make that statement before about other gear,
I know 8-)

It does **not** contain the same piano samples found in the Proteus.

It's got a grand piano that rivals (and I think is better than) the Kurzweil.
It's got a bright piano that rivals the U220 without an annoying ring on the
sustain that the U220 has from looping.

It's (relatively) cheap! Daddy's price is $449 but the unit could probably
be had for less than $400.

For anyone that's in the market for a cheap and excellent piano-only module,
I recommend that you check out the Proformance.

(OK, now where's my commission 8-)
