| I understand that v2 will greatly improve the scoring facilities
both on-screen and printing.
My hope is that they get all the BUGS out of the software!

Re -1
Bob... I saw your article in (Was it SOS or Music Technology?)
It was you wasn't it? How are sales of the album going ?
I also find that CUBASE bombs occasionaly
But not enough to make it annoying as opposed to iritating.
I am assured that printing is in V2 August was the last date mentioned.

2364.3 | | PAULUS::BAUER | Richard Bauer SAM Frankfurt | Tue Jun 12 1990 13:52 | 15 |
| Hi there !
I saw a demonstration at the Musikmesse Frankfurt. I was quite impressed.
Besides the new integrated scoring, what I found most useful was something
like a flexibel, programmable accompaniement (sp?). E.g. imagine a bass
pattern, or a piccicate dependant on a few parameters. You define it with the
mouse and some pull downs, then you press a key on your keyboard (on the ATARI's
MIDI in) and it plays the pattern (through the ATARI's MIDI out).
If I don't forget, I will look up some more details in the brochures I got.
best regards
Richard

2364.4 | some details | PAULUS::BAUER | Richard Bauer SAM Frankfurt | Mon Jun 18 1990 06:19 | 37 |
| Hi there !
As promised some more details of Cubase V2 from the Steinberg flyer:
Besides the integrated scoring the added an Interactive Phrase
Synthesizer (IPS). It allows to generate tones and rythm of a phrase,
but influenced by a lot of parameters (they compare it with the sound
generation of an analog synthesizer). So one can create anything from simple
arpeggios to complex variations (like an auto accompaniement of Roland
E20).
The phrase has to be created/recorded with Cubase and is then available
in the IPS. Any modification of any parameter is immediately available
as a new phrase on MIDI out, hence realtime auditable.
There are two independant IPS and 32 available presets that can be
selected by program change.
Now I try to outline some of the functions that can be seen from the
screen dump of the IPS.
A recorded phrase or a MIDI in feed in an Interpreter that has hold,
loop and retrigger functions. This feeds into three processors for velocity,
pitch and rythm (all with various parmeters like LFO, frequ., densitiy,
compression, transpose, the key of which you want to play in etc.). The
combined result feeds into the MIDI out, where program and channel can
be selected.
There are two other Modulators available, which can also be configured
similar to the ones above, but the picture doesn't show at which points
they act.
Hope that helps
best regards
Richard

2364.7 | Hotline says its almost there | KADOR::HANNA | Your being attracts your life | Wed Aug 15 1990 06:45 | 13 |
| Paul, I was talking to the Steinberg Hotline in the UK yesterday. Looks like
they've only now received the update documentation and about 200 disks. The
guy I talked to couldn't say when they'll be mailing them out.
The number in the UK is : (742) 684.543.
I was trying to find out if V1.5 would work with MIDEX. Answer was no, the
MROS version with 1.5 wa written before the MIDEX box was completed.
Also found out that after V1.5 there was a V1.51 released (last March) that
I never heard/read about. Have any other CUBASE users got this ?

| I should mention that the UK Hotline is open between 2-5p.m. local (UK) time.
Additionaly, to find out the version you're rally running press CONTROL-HELP
which pops up a window showing version number and the time the software was
"built".

2364.10 | Robust software ? | EICMFG::BURKE | Jim Burke, @UFC | Fri Aug 24 1990 04:02 | 11 |
| re Cubase bombs & bugs: I've been hammering Clab Notator for over a
year now, and I can honestly say that I have never had a single bomb,
or file corruption. The worst I've had, is temporary hanging [seems to
get it's knickers in a twist for up to a minute, then it's back OK]. I
occasionally get some screen corruption, but this is easily remedied.
This is saying something, since I load a variety of ACCs which live
alongside it fine.
Just a comment - not a told-you-so !

2364.12 | Yes! Cubase on MAC does exist. | STKHLM::ARENDI | VIA-GROUP TSC STOCKHOLM | Thu Sep 06 1990 08:24 | 12 |
| Hi!
Yes, there is a MAC version of Cubase. I haven't seen it myself but
it said to be a year behind in development compared to the ATARI one.
I must say that if I had the money and the V2.0 was available on MAC,
I'd definitely choose that version, cause I still think the GEM desktop
interface is a rather simple MAC-copy.
Best regards

2364.14 | October update for V2.0 | KADOR::REVERB::HANNA | Get the Madman | Mon Dec 17 1990 07:23 | 12 |
| An updated V2.0 (October 90) is available that fixes a few problems - the one
I had was related to SMPTE not working correcly with a Song Start time of
10H00.00.00.
In the UK you must mail them a disk and they'll copy the new version and
send it back to you. (As I live in Switzerland, this would have been a pain
so the hotline guy said he'll just send me a copy and forget the disk mailing).
Otherwise, been working with video and the software tracks SMPTE (via
a midi-expander/synchronizer "MIDEX/Plus" interface) beautifully.

2364.15 | Version 2.01 (or 2.1) is out | KADOR::REVERB::HANNA | What a wonderful world :^) | Thu Aug 22 1991 07:02 | 16 |
| I called Steinberg Hotline in the UK. It seems that a version 2.01 (or was
it 2.1) came out on 1st August. This was only sent out to known MIDEX owners
as the software fixed a MIDEX timing problem and a Midi in problem.
(I own a MIDEX which I bought from Germany - I know have to write to
Evenlode in the UK to get my name on their list).
The hotline guy also mentioned that the next release will be V3.0 and will
include something I've wanted - Macros ! This will enable a Logical edit
parameter setup to be stored as a "command". This is neat. Say you wanted to
have a "compressor" that reduced all note velocities above a certain threshold
by a certain ratio: It would be simple to define the "parameters" in the
logical edit page and then to save this as a macro. The compress option
currently implemented is crude as it applies a percentage reduction/increase
to all note velocities.

2364.17 | Steinberg news (not just Cubase) | PAULUS::BAUER | Richard - ISE L10N Center Frankfurt | Wed Nov 27 1991 07:25 | 95 |
| Hi there !
Since I intended the other Cubase note to be used for "how to"
discussions about Cubase, I will use this one to give some info on the
new Steinberg products (not only Cubase). This extends some info on V3
given in "the other note".
The info is from a Steinberg press release printed and commented in the
German Keyboards.
Cubase 3.0
- completely rewritten notation with 16 polyphone (or 32 monophone)
systems. Drum notation, guitar chords possible. Flexible page layout.
- enhancements to the arrange window, ie. flexible reordering of the
columns on the left hand side (the ones you normally hide anyway).
Status field for every track, which can be used to define a default
action for double-click (eg.invoke drum editor).
- all mouse tools get a second function to enhance usability (whatever
that means)
- the time resolution is doubled !!!
- runs on the TT
- completely modular, ie. you can load or unload any subsystem like
Notation, IPS, MIDI-Manager, Satellite at any time.
- availability: Dec.'91
- Price:
complete package: unchanged
update (including two new books and new key): 150.-DM (about 90$)
New Cubase modules:
STYLETRAX
A fully programmable real time arranger.
Availability: March '92
Price: 150.-DM (about 90$)
New Syntworks Editors:
Synthworks SQ for the Ensoniq SQ series
Availability: Dec.'91
Price: 300.-DM (about 180$)
Project TANGO (codename, productname to be defined)
Another real time accompaniement (?) with lots of parameters to
influence the generated music. Ideal for jamming, generates very
interesting results, according to the author, who got a demo.
Cubase MAC AUDIO
MIDI and Harddisk recording. Supports Digidesign Audiomedia,
Sound-Accelerator, Sample-Cell and Pro-Tools hardware. The first
version allows up to 4 mono channels, to be extended.
Availability: Dec.'91
Synthworks Mac for AKAI Samplers S100, S1100 and S110EEX
A full featured (special) sample editor using all the features of the
sampler. Intersting enough, the S1100EX (normally to be used only in
conjunction with a S1100) can be used as a stand-alone sample player.
Availability: Dec.'91
Price: 350.-DM (about 210$)
Time Bandit
Allows time compression on audio files (supported formats: Sound
Designer 1/2 and Audio IFF) without pitch change or vice versa. Works
direct to/from disk so become independant of available RAM.
Price: 1000.-DM (about 600$)
That's it.
