2320.0. "Does this mixer exist?" by FGVAXX::LAING (Soft-Core Cuddler*Jim Laing*282-1476) Fri Apr 13 1990 18:03

    I'm looking for a mixer that fits a rather specific set of criteria
    ... since there are SO many gadgets out there and I can't keep up,
    I thought I'd ask here if anyone's seen a mixer that fits the following
    description:

    	-Rack mounted (2 spaces, NO MORE)
    	-4 to 8 channels, stereo (pannable)
    	-at least 2-band EQ on each channel
    	-able to accept both lo-Z and hi-Z inputs
    	-has a headphone jack

    If so, respond here ... I sure could use a mixer like this ...

    	thanks,
    	Jim

	If you leave out the EQ, there's lots to choose from.

2320.3It's EQ-on-each-channel I wantFGVAXL::LAINGSoft-Core Cuddler*Jim Laing*282-1476Sat Apr 14 1990 20:246
    The EQ is one of the key features that I want ... I've seen plenty of
    2-space mixers w/o it, but none with it. One hope is the Roland M12E,
    announced at the NAMM show - *1* space, 12 channels, 2 FX loops, and
    2-band EQ ... how can they fit all this in 1 space?

    Virtual faders?	You know....software.

    Letsee:
    	1 for vol.
    	1 for pan.
    	2 for FXsends
    	2 for EQ

    Thats 6. Times 12 channels? Plus 2 FX returns? and Misc?

    2 space maybe. One?

    well, use dual pots. thats 1 vol/pan
    				1 FX sends
    				1 EQ

    MAYBE thats possible. You better have small fingers...

    Re -.1

    I've seen 12-channel mixers w/o EQ in 1-space ... all I want is
    a measly 4 to 6 channels (maybe they won't make one because they, the
    marketing types, figure everyone wants 12 or more channels these days).

    Alternately, is there a decent 4-Eq's-in-a-box, in 1-space, around
    these days? [maybe I should put *this* question in a separate note?]

    If only only one could order a "custom-built" mixer ...

2320.6Korg EQ BoxesAQUA::ROSTBad imitation of Jerry JemmottFri Apr 20 1990 17:0219

    Yo, Jim....

    Korg has a couple of boxes like that. Union Music in Worcester, MA is
    trying to sell two of them.

    One has four 5 band (mono) EQs plus a stereo 7-band EQ, all in a single
    rack unit.

    The other has four three band EQs, with shelving bass and treble, and
    sweepable mid with selectable Q. Two of the EQs can be cascaded with a
    pair of compressor/expander/noise gates. So it can be used as four
    mono EQs, two EQs and two comp/expanders, or two EQs and two
    EQ/comp/expanders.

    I think they were asking under $200 for either one.

    BTW, the pictures and text I saw on that Roland M-12-whatever 1U mixer
    didn't show/mention EQ.

The M-120 doesn;t have eq.

The supposed new product at NAMM, the M-12E does.

2320.8Roland M12E is a good bet....SUBSYS::LYNCHTue May 22 1990 14:2015
    The M12E is two units high and does have EQ. It's a 12 channel board.
    The density is obtained by using concentric pots, which is less
    convenient but is the tradeoff you have to pay to fit it into only 3.5"
    of space.  Check it out!

    From the description of your requirements, it's the *only* thing on the
    market that is likely to do everything you want. If you can scare up a
    recent copy of the Roland Users' Group mag (forget which month), you
    can read all about it.

    I use an M160 myself for keyboard mixes (4 units high, 16 channels, no
    EQ and 4 FX sends). I have no complaint at all with the sound quality
    or the overall quality.
