2313.0. "KORG Connection--User's Group" by AQUA::ROST (Bass is the place) Tue Apr 10 1990 12:51

From USENET: a Korg user's group is being initiated.

You asked for it,
You waited for it,
Now, it's here...

                             "KORG Connection"

The Official User's Group of KORG USA, Inc.

That's right folks, after three months of work the KORG user's group is
now a reality. KORG Connection is a nationwide group for everyone
interested in KORG synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and signal
processors. The group will communicate through a bimonthly newsletter
and a BBS, as well as Usenet and CompuServe.

My goals for the group are:

1) Share patches, samples, sequences, knowledge, horror stories, etc.

2) Help people meet other musicians in their local area, and nationwide.

3) Help resolve technical problems.

The newsletter is coming out in June, and I'm actively searching for
people to submit articles, tips, questions, etc. Two people from
netland are already working on articles. If you are interested, please
contact me by email or phone. I need your material by the end of this
month.

On Saturday I leave for New York to meet Dave Goldberg, Larry DiMarco
and Kim Holland of KORG. Dave is our liason with KORG, Larry is VP of
marketing and Kim is VP of development. In addition to formalizing our
agreement, I hope to come away with some good interviews for the
newsletter. I will be gone all next week, so unfortunately I won't be
able to respond to your email or phone calls until after the 16th.

Next month KORG will be mailing an announcement of the KORG Connection
to 12,000 people in the US. In addition, there will be classified ads
in the July issues of Keyboard, EM, and Music Technology. The first
issue of the newsletter will be mailed June 1. I hope to have the BBS
running in May. I am also hoping to get an East Coast BBS going, to
save phone bills for those on that side of the country. The two BBS's
will be linked.

Back in February I posted some info about my plans for the newsletter.
They include:

Interviews with, and articles by, working musicians. I have several
recording artists in mind for this, and hopefully some of KORG's
"artist endorsees" may be available also.

A question and answer column. The most interesting questions and
answers I get will be printed here. You can send me your questions
over the net, CompuServe, phone or mail. If none of our experts can
answer your question, KORG will. If you're on the net, I'll email
   you too.

Tips from group members. You've come up with a slick way of doing
   something? Share it!

How-to columns. These will be written by myself, other group
members, and KORG customer support guys. Things like patch editing,
   sequencing, sampling and recording techniques.

New products and reviews. I'll be getting all the latest poop from
KORG, and also from third party developers. Also, anyone who wants
to write a review is welcome to.

Free classified ads. Perhaps you want to sell something, form a band,
   whatever.

As for the BBS, I hope to provide patch libraries, email, and the entire
text of the newsletter and back issues. The problem with patches is a
lack of standardization among computers and librarian software. I'm
looking for volunteers to help me figure out a way around this problem.
The only thing I've come up with is to find shareware (or PD) MIDI sys
ex programs for IBM, Mac, Atari, Amiga and C64, and distribute them to
all members. Then we need to write a program to translate the files
between these formats. I'D REALLY LIKE SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS!!! Is
there a better way? Are you willing to write some software? Please let
me know.

Dues are $12 per year. Send your payment to the address below.

You are not required to become a member to submit articles for the
newsletter, but you should anyway! Authors will receive the praise and
admiration of the membership, and a copy of the issue containing their
article.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous postings. I have tried
to reply to everyone. If you didn't hear from me it's probably
because my mail didn't make it (especially if you got to me through
uucp). As you may have noticed, I have a new mail address. I hope
you all can reach it.

The KORG Connection is a new and exciting user's group for KORG musicians.
We are the only independent group endorsed by KORG USA to provide help and
information about KORG products. If you own any KORG musical instrument
or signal processor, the KORG Connection is for you!

Our bimonthly newsletter shows you how to get the most out of your
instrument. Unlike other magazines, every issue of the KORG Connection
is dedicated exclusively to KORG products and the people who use them.
You can look forward to:

     * Informative articles on a variety of instruments and topics.
     * Honest evaluations of new products.
     * Interviews with musicians and product developers.
     * News from local user's groups around the globe.
     * Tips from other users and KORG product support specialists.
     * Questions and answers.
     * Sound patches.
     * Free classified advertising.

In addition to the newsletter, members receive free technical support by
