Hi, I am a SUPER beginner of MIDI but understands VCO, VCF, VCA and LFO stuff. I have been reading this note for a while, but am not able to find a topic on YAMAHA HX-1. Yes, I admit it is called an electronic organ ( YAMAHA calls it ELECTONE ) not a synthesizer, but should a keyboard with 16 operators, close to 200 algorithm, drum machine, sequencer and all sorts of effector built in be called a synthesizer ? Anyway, I am looking for somebody who can exchange information on the keyboard. Or, is there a way I can edit the floppy disk and create new voices ? Tak

Hello... A friend of mine just bought a CHX-1, which is an HX-1 with a "home-organ-style" cabinet. From what little I've gleaned while talking with him, and reading the owner's manual here 'n' there, I believe that Yamaha has not made "publicly available" the necessary info and/or software to edit voices. But, the instrument is *definitely* capable of sound editing ... a popular HX-1 player, Hector Olivera, has for sale some disks with his own sounds, and I once spoke w/Hector; he does indeed use a computer to create his own sounds. . .I believe that Yamaha also sells disks with additional sounds ... I'm curious about one thing - I'd considered buying an HX-1 until I saw the price ... ~$20,000 US, then a friend bought a CHX-1 for I think it was well under $10,000 (still a LOT) ... what price range are the selling for now? -Jim | |||||

In the note on "Organ-like instruments" that I started awhile back, there is at least one person who's at DEC that's an owner of an HX-series instrument ... you (.0) might want to contact him ... -Jim |
