| This is the one that looks like an upright, right ? It has the
Kurzweil piano and most of the samples available in the 1000 series.
.. dunno - if you like the traditional look and like the sounds, y not?

| I found out from Kurzweil that the Mark III is solded to the dealer
for $1895, but they have not yet set a price for what the dealer
sales it for. Checking around I have been given a price range of
$2900.00 to $3788.00? I'll be going for the $29 naturally unless
someone knows a better deal. I hear that Kurzweil is the top of
the line and because they are in Waltham Mass. it seems to be a
good choice. Any comment?

I pass no judgment on the following but it is something you should
know if part of your decision will be based on Kurzweil being a local
company...
PRESS RELEASE... OCTOBER 23, 1989
"KURZWEIL MUSIC SYSTEMS SEEKS BUSINESS COMBINATION
Kurzweil Music Systems, Inc. announced today that it has engaged
the investment banking firm of Kidder, Peabody & Co. Incorporated as
its financial advisor in connection with identifying and analyzing
strategic financial alternatives, on a worldwide basis, including the
possible sale of the Company.
Raymond C. Kurzweil, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said
"The Company has completed the development and recently started
shipment of a major new product line which incorporates Kurzweil's high
quality sound reproduction in a package designed for the home market.
The reception of the Kurzweil EG-20 has been very positive and the
Company feels that this product and others recently introduced and
under development position it well in the market. However, as
previously indicated, the Company continues to require additional
funding to realize the potential of its technology and introduce new
products. As a result, we have determined that is in the best
interests of our shareholders to seek an appropriate business
combination which could provide the capital and the environment to help
the Company achieve its ambitious plans for growth."
..."
If the EG-20 is the product code for the Ensemble Grande Mark III, then
it probably is their top-of-the-line. If its not, then perhaps there's
a newer home "piano" that is Kurzweil's top-of-the-line.
For what it's worth,
- John -
P.S. To make it explicit: I own 200 shares of Kurzweil Music Systems,
Inc. stock as well as a 1000PX with PX-A soundblock. I neither
encourage nor discourage from buying, selling, or trading Kurzweil
stock or equipment. I urge people to make up their own minds and
use their own best judgment.

2218.5 | Kurzweil simply sounds the best IMO | HPSTEK::RENE | Are you with me Doctor? | Fri Dec 29 1989 14:02 | 6 |
| If a great piano sound is a must for you, Kurzweil has the best
sounding accoustic grand piano of all that are produced electronicly in
my (and probably many other's) opinion. To sound better (closer to the
real thing) you may just have to buy the real thing.

2218.6 | Kurzweil not the best | JAIMES::FALIVENA | Mike Falivena | Tue Jan 02 1990 11:38 | 11 |
| Sorry to have to disagree with .5 regarding the quality of Kurzweil's
acoustic piano sound. I have compared Kurzweil, Yamaha and Technics
acoustic piano sounds and feel. To my mind there is no comparison.
The Technics (Model 6) is clearly superior in sound and feel to
the other two. Of course, there is always some subjective element
in this kind of preference. I have purchased two Model 6's.
Unfortunately, I believe the Model 6 is no longer being manufactured.
The Technics Model 20 has succeeded the Model 6, but the technology
has been changed and is not (in my opinion) as good as the Model
6. (I have attached a Roland RA50 voices/rhythm box to me Technics
keyboard and so far I think it's great.)

2218.7 | Piano teacher | FLUKE::COOK | | Tue Jan 02 1990 13:08 | 3 |
| Thanks for the input. While I'm still looking for a piano, does anyone
have a name of a good piano teacher in Manchester N.H.? There are
allot in Manchester, but a good piano teacher is normally hard to find.

2218.8 | huh? really? | NRPUR::MCCONNELL | pro-Way, Truth, *and* Life | Tue Jan 02 1990 13:34 | 15 |
| I've never heard the Technics Piano. It is *better* than a Kurzweil?
Does it have strings 8-)
Seriously, where could I hear one of these, who sells them in the
Mass. area? I've heard the Kurzweil (my doctor is *still* doing
reconstructive surgery on my jaw since its untimely fall when I
first heard one) and believe it to be the closest thing to a piano
there is. Granted, I'm not a musical whiz, but on tape, I simply
can not tell the difference between a well recorded grand and the
Kurz (like I can with my Roland MKS-20, no matter *how* much you
play with EQ and FX).
Curious,
Steve

re: Kurzweil being the best -
For 'grand piano', I'd have to agree. But, for a 'bright piano'
(i.e. one that would most likely be used when mixing with other
instruments), I think my new U20 is far superior.

| re .8
The Technics electronic piano line is sold at East Coast Piano &
Organ in Woburn (and probably at whatever other locations they have).
Tell the owner, Greg, that Mike Falivena referred you to him. They
can also be found at Steinert's Worcester branch store. Try out
a Model 6 if you can find one.

I have been down to East Coast Piano in Woburn. After shopping
around, I feel East Coast Piano has the best selections and the
best price in this area, but I'm not sure about their service.
