A drummer I worked with about four years ago had both Shure and TOA
headset systems. Both were wire systems. The TOA also included
walkman style phones for monitoring.
He like the sound of both mikes and also the monitor feature of the
TOA. What he didn;t like was that he kept having problems with the
(small diameter) cords failing on him.
Admittedly drummers probably give the cords a tougher time than
you would.
I have no idea what improvements if any have been made over the last
four years.

| Headsets were discussed at length in 1862. Seems to me that Paul
Harriman was the resident "guru" (if I might name drop).
Use keywords HEADPHONES and MICROPHONES for more info (SHOW KEY/FULL or

... I thought we talked about this a while back. I have TOAs, and
I ended up getting an AKG headset for (of all people) my mother,
who wanted a mike to play piano and sing with. No model numbers,
one more day and I can get both. Everything worthwhile needs a
phantom powering device, but my TOA will either supply it's own
or it'll take phantom power off the line.

2190.4 | Shure SM-10 | DRUMS::FEHSKENS | | Mon Dec 04 1989 17:24 | 7 |
| I used a Shure SM-10 for a few years. The sound was clean, but
by comparison with our other mics (AKG condensers) a bit dull in
the high end. I epoxied the boom mount clip to a pair of AKG K-240's
rather than get the SM-10A, which includes an earpiece.

Do yah have to duct tape the headset onto your head?
Mine falls off all the time in practice.
Maybe if I quit doing the bongos with my head...

| re .5 - that was another reason I attached the mic clip to a real
pair of headphones. They wouldn't fall off no matter how physical
I got (well, almost...)

re .5
Butch, maybe we should attach the headset to that screw that sticks
out over your head and then drill it right into your head!
Not only will it hold the headset on, but you'll stop banging you
head into it! ;^)

| My brother uses an AKG C410 wired and I use a Samson wireless system with an AKG
C410 as well. The AKG condenser is real good.

| re: .8,
If you don't mind me asking, how much did your entire wireless system
cost (including the C410 et al)? What made you decide to go with the Samson
rather than the AKG wireless setup? Also, how is your C410 powered?(belt pack?)
Thanks for any info,
Dan

2190.10 | Don't mind at all | MISING::SFAFRAK | RISCy business... | Wed Dec 20 1989 14:22 | 6 |
| I went with Samson due to availability at the time. I do not remember the price
but I will check tonight. The C410 is powered via phantom power at the board.
Although I believe the wireless pack has something to do with amplifying the
signal.
