| You don't need help.
You've already stumbled onto what I consider the absolutest best place
to learn synths and MIDI, NOVA::COMMUSIC. The caliber of the
"regulars" in this file is second to none.
Read this conference. I guarantee in 6 months you'll be sys-exing your
toaster and will know wht LERDS-BIM is...

2139.2 | Of course, I don't have a mac or e-piano | MILKWY::JANZEN | cf. ANT::CIRCUITS,ANT::UWAVES | Wed Oct 18 1989 14:42 | 21 |

If the piano interfaces to MIDI, buy a midi cable and a midi/macintosh
interface and a macintosh midi sequencing software program.
But first buy magazines like Electronic Musician and Keyboard
(especially Keyboard) to look at the ads and maybe even the articles.
Then ask for opinions about each Mac MIDI sequencing program in here.
You may also want a printer that can print music nicely.
This should enable you to play on the piano while the computer records
the keys you hit and stores them in a file, and then to have the
computer play it back later just as you played it. Then you can
learn to directly enter the music on the mac; this way you can forget
about playing piano any more. YOu may want another sound generating
unit (SGU) for woodwinds/brass/strings, such as an MT32 or such, to
accompany the piano, but postpone that until you are up to speed on the
rest of it using the h/w you have.

2139.3 | 128k is a bit skimpy | NORGE::CHAD | Ich glaube Ich tte Ich htte | Wed Oct 18 1989 15:26 | 4 |
| Also, I don't think 128k Macs are very useful for much anymore. You might
want to upgrade you Mac.

2139.4 | Read intro(s) and use keywords | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad - boycott hell. | Wed Oct 18 1989 15:31 | 6 |
| As the conference intro says, *PLEASE* read 1.*. You'll have access to
more information than you'll ever need (or possibly want).
And welcome to COMMUSIC.

| Having a 512K MAC, I can say with some authority that you won't find
ANY MIDI sequencing software that will run in 128K. All the new
software requires 1MB...

I've been reading for 6 months, but I still don't know what
a LERDS-BIM is! So, Ed, why don't you enlighten me?

| Ah, kind sir, this type of valuable knowledge is best appreciated
when earned, not simply bestowed.
