| Forte seems to be THE company for MIDI retrofits...
The multiple channels you seek can be handled by an off the shelf out-
board processor, so that's not a problem. All you need is something to
generate the note information from the organ keyboard...

I also subscribe to 2 pipe-organ-related magazines. I'll look around

| Here's the info on 2 companies that I had info on ...
InterMIDI, Inc. (408) 335-3985
P.O. Box 127,
Mount Hermon, CA 95041-0127
They have a several-page brochure; they mention that their converters
have been installed in a variety of pipe and electronic organs.
MIDITEC
453 Darwin Crescent
Thunder Bay, Ontario
Canada P7B 5W5
(807) 345-MIDI
This company also sent me a several-page brochure, in which they
describe their MIDI products for installation in organs.
Hope this info helps!

2130.4 | More info now posted. | GIDDAY::BRUCE | | Thu Oct 05 1989 08:11 | 44 |
| Thanks for the replies so far. Here is the more info I promised.
I am aware of some other products. Can anyone help with details.
1. Devtronix.
They say that they have a MIDI interface for
pipe organs (This is a seperate unit to their multi-action relay
system). I wrote for more info and they told me that they have not
gone into production yet.(although they are advertising it with price
details). Their unit appears to be for 4 channels only and provides 1
channel for each of three keyboards and pedalboard. If so this will
not be suitable as it will not have enough channels. They have a
prototype fitted to theiir demo organ. Can anyone provide me with more
info on this one??
2. Rodgers/Roland.
I have seen a Rodgers electronic organ
fitted with MIDI. The model I saw was fitted with a Roland MT-32 as
standard. This seemed to provide 1 channel for each of two keyboards
and pedalboard. I know it sent on three channels and recieved on only
one. Channel assignments were fixed. With this combination it is
possible to program the MT-32 by pressing a key on the organ keyboard.
In other words there were 122 (2 x 61) pre-programmed sounds available.
Is this a feature of the MT-32 or is this a clever MIDI processor in
the Rodgers unit itself. Rodgers are also talking about their new
MIDI-2 system?? What can anyone tell me about this one. Now that
Rodgers and Roland are effectively one will Rodgers use standard Roland
MIDI processors??
RE .1 Does anyone have an address, etc for Forte.?
RE .3 Thank you for the info. I will send for more details from the
companies you suggested.
The plan for this MIDI system is to use the Swell Pedals of the
organ to provide Velocity information as per Rodgers. We will also
think about providing true velocity touch on one keyboard. The two
lower keyboards will have 2nd touch fitted to them and it may also be
desirable to couple MIDI to 2nd touch. Any comments on any of this.

| The address for Forte is in note 5.32.
Can't tell you much more about the other stuff. You might try
contacting Roland directly ... I don't know if there's a Roland stub
down under or not. If not, call or write to:
Roland Corp US
7200 Dominion Circle
Los Angeles, CA 90040
213-685-5141
I've never heard of Devtronix.
