2125.0. "Replacement for Church Organ" by DECNIX::HERGT (Paul L. Hergt, SSGBPM, ZK03-3/Y25, 381-0813) Wed Sep 20 1989 10:18

I have talked myself into the same situation as Note 196.0 in the Computer
Music Notes FILE (see attachment), although I am dealing with 2 churches.
The first is in temporary quarters in a hall (about 75 people) and the
second is in an "A" frame building, about 250 people. The churches are
Lutheran, and they love to sing. There is no need for mikes, etc.

Forgive me for entering a new note, but it is now 4 years later and experience
shows that people only look at the last dozen or so new notes.

Are there some new suggestions? It appears that the sampler/synth market has
changed a lot since then, perhaps less so for Amps and speakers.

Also, has anyone found a full AGO pedalboard. Is that practical?

I have also read

This note is somewhat off the subject, but it should generate some interesting
dialog and I need all the help that I can get.

I am a member of a committee that is responsible for selecting a replacement
for a 40 year old church organ. Our committee ranges in technical expertise
from totally to completely ignorant, so we need your help.

Can you recommend who to contact, where to get competitive literature,
evaluation criteria, vendors, features, problems, specs...?

Our system requirements are as follows:
	- total budget approx. 15k$ to include "organ", 2 mikes, speakers
	- system performance adequate for church seating 250 people with
	  fair acoustics
	- keyboard operation simple enough for organist with strong
	  technical anxiety
	- fair selection of voices: organ, pipes, chimes, bells,
	  synth sounds, ...
	- some flexibility for future addition of more mikes, maybe stereo
	- background rhythms and fillin are of secondary importance

2125.1MIDI a pedalboardFGVAXX::LAINGSoft-Core Cuddler*Jim Laing*282-1476Wed Sep 20 1989 11:5910
    I have not found full AGO pedalboards, but I have seen kits that
    will allow you to "MIDI" up such a pedalboard. Contact me via
    MAIL; I may still have the literature on this.

    I bought an 18-note pedalboard as a compromise ... more than 13
    but far from AGO specs ...

    Ah, if I could only afford a couple of ranks of MIDI'd *real* pipes!

    You might try doing a DIR/KEY=PEDAL*. There are one or two topics on
    this as well.

2125.4RE: .1 & .3 w/other comments DECNIX::HERGTPaul L. Hergt, SSGBPM, ZK03-3/Y25, 381-0813Wed Sep 20 1989 15:2219
RE:.1 For myself I've been thinking a kit route but probably not for a church.

	I would love to replace my Baldwin Fantasia, maybe if I let my 1 year
	old play with it a bit?

	I like the idea of midi'ing the pipes, how would you get the midi
	velocity information to change the opening speed of a pipe pallet,
	and don't forget that tracker feel of control.

	Although a little off the subject, and wrong notes file, but does
	anyone know anything about kits, both electronic and real live
	pipes?

RE:.3 I saw notes 362.*, see base note, thanks

Also I have asked this in the usenet rec.music.synth, and I will post the
replies here as well.
