2056.0. "MiDimoog: the walking dead" by MARVIN::MACHIN () Thu Jul 27 1989 05:24

I see Syco Systems and The Synthesizer Company in London are
advertising two 'new' products: Midimoog and -- wait for it --
    Prophet 5.

Tehy're desribed as 'the classic instruments re-packaged'. Re-packaging
for the minimoog entails sticking it in a 19" rackmount box, adding a
fifth oscillator, and giving you aftertouch, velocity and all that
    great midi stuff.

Details on the Prophet are not forthcoming, other that it, too, has
been racked. Hopefully, it still has that exciting indecisiveness about
whether to work or not, but presumably this will be undecidable via
    midi.

If there really is a market for this stuff, sounds like the backlash
against digital (or at least software-based) instruments, if not
    here already, is being encouraged.

    Richard.

Prophet 5? Boy, that shakes the cobwebs out o' me head. I seem
to recall seeing my first one in about 1980 in a studio.

Quite!!! the Prophet-5 had a truly amazing arpeggiator and (I believe)
you could connect the arpeggiator and the LFOs in some way for truly
    killer sounds.

Are these polyphonic reimplementations or are they monophonic ?

The minimoog is definitely mono, so I imagine the prophet will be
    5-note poly.
