2053.0. "Yamaha DX7/E! mod-wheel control problem?" by TALLIS::SEIGEL (SYNTH when?) Wed Jul 19 1989 16:10

I'm having a problem with my DX7/E! (I think). I've been able to determine
that the mod wheel is only sending values of 0 to 63, and I think it should
be 0 - 127.  So, question #1 is: is this a DX restriction, or a DX/E!
restriction, or a bug?

There seems to be a workaround. E! allows the Mod wheel to be defined as
another control source. So, I chose CONTROLLER-A. Further, you can then
set a control value for CONTROLLER-A, so I chose 1 (mod wheel). Now, I
get 0 - 127 for values from the mod wheel. Any thoughts?

In case it matters, I'm monitoring the midi events with the Midi-scope
built in to the Kurzweil 1000PX.

Thanks for any help clearing up the confusion.

Andy,

On many controllers and synths, the mod wheel and pitch bend range of values
can be set by setting the upper limit or the relative positional range. Can
this be done on the DX?

For the pitch wheel, yes. For the mod-wheel, ... Not sure. However, the
current method seems to be working (mod-wheel = controller-a, controller-a = 1)
