| I can't speak for Fostex but my Tascam has a momentary contact single pole
push button switch that I built myself for $2 rather than the $25 Tascam
gets for theirs...housed in an H4005 box that was scrap/downrev....

2042.2 | Radio Shack has one | VOLKS::RYEN | Rick Ryen 285-6248 | Wed Jul 12 1989 13:51 | 9 |
| I picked up one at Radio Shack, for about ~$3.50. It had a
non-standard mini plug and very short cable, which I cut off and
replaced with a female 1/4" jack.
It might not stand up to a lot of heavy abuse, but it was a reasonably
cheap and effective solution. Just another option... I could never get
the mechanical design to work right.

2042.3 | Fostex had some odd things | CSC32::G_HOUSE | Be excellent to everyone! | Thu Jul 13 1989 20:11 | 9 |
| I don't know about the Fostex model you mention, but some of them
didn't do this electronically (notibly the X15). They have a little
pnumatic tube setup similar to to a remote shutter release for a
camera.
I use a standard momentary contact footswitch which cost about $5 with
my Ross 4-track.

2042.4 | Boss foot switches | ANT::JACQUES | | Mon Jul 17 1989 11:00 | 33 |
| An alternative to the Tascam foot switch is a Boss FS5U.
Boss makes two models of foot switches. The FS5U is for
punch in/out applications (the U denotes unlatched, meaning
the switch does not lock on/off). The FS5L is the latching
model needed for switching effects on/off, and can also
be used for channel switching on some amps.
Both units have a polarity switch to match them to whatever
you are controlling. The FS5L unit has an LED to tell when
the switch is on/off (depending on the polarity setting).
therefore the FS5L requires a 9v battery to run the LED, but
the FS5U does not require a battery.
Both units feature the same micro switch mechanism used on
all Boss effects, the ME5, FC100 foot controllers, etc.
The switch does not see any pressure like a regular stomp
switch generally sees.
Both units have a 1/4" phone jack input so that any length
cable may be used.
Perhaps the nicest feature of these pedals is the fact that
they are keyed so that two or more pedals may be ganged together
side by side.
The down side is that they are relatively expensive (~$25/each)
but well worth it in my opinion. I have one of each and plan to
add more to the "gang" later as needed.
