2036.0. "Simmons liquidated :-(" by HSKAPL::VERGHESE () Tue Jul 04 1989 03:01

Simmons Digital Music (formerly Simmons Electronics), makers of
the first completely electronic drum set, are no longer.
    Sad, isn't it?
I always liked those small companies (and their products) better
    than the big ones.

That is a shame. They were still coming out with new ideas until ver
recently, weren't they? (The 'silicon mallet' isn't that old). I assume
the people involved are all working for one of the biggies now (Akai?)

    Richard.
2036.2Is it for sure this time ?KIPPIS::LEHTINENHe's here! The Phantom of The Opera...Sun Jul 09 1989 08:2613
    Re: .0

This is strange. The June issue of "International Musician and
Recording World" features a review of their brand new product
called "SDS 2000" and has no mention of the company going out
    of business.

However I remember hearing this rumour already a year or so ago...

Are you sure about this? Where did you hear it?

    RE .2

Yeah, the news about Simmons going out of business was mentioned
in the newsdesk pages of the July issue of "Music Technology",
also a British magazine (in my opinion much better than IM&RW).

I suppose it is final this time.

2036.4SIMMONS IS ALIVERAVEN1::HBROWNWed Nov 01 1989 09:4615
Simmons has NOT gone out of business.

I ordered some EPROMS from them about four weeks ago for my SDS-7's,
received them in less than two weeks (not bad going from South Carolina
to California and back) and with my order they sent me some flyers on
their new SDS 2000 series drums.

I called their US headquarters in California back in August about the
availability of EPROMS and they sent me a tape of what they had
available (about 100 different ones), they also quoted me a price of
$20 for each one. The price was still good when I ordered four weeks
    ago.

I talked to the people at Simmons again last night.
The SDS 2000's are just now coming into the U.S.
Their factory has reopened and is still gearing up to full production
    at this time.

Suggested retail (we all know what that means) price
    is........................

    				$2999.00

You can write to Simmons and they will send you info on the SDS 2000's.
