2025.1 | $$$$$ Reduction? | GIAMEM::LAFLAMME | | Fri Jun 16 1989 09:32 | 5 |
| Any idea how much SQ-80's will go for?
(Not that I care or it makes ANY difference to me)

2025.2 | Not sure about the SQ-80 part of that | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | Conliberative | Fri Jun 16 1989 11:19 | 14 |
| There was a mention of that directly from Ensoniq in the Transoniq
Hacker (Ensoniq user group magazine), but it said they were only
dropping the ESQ-1, and didn't mention the SQ-80.
Perhaps they are dropping it, but that doesn't like a good idea
because that would leave them without an entry in the very
popular $1000-$2000 synth/sequencer market.
Remember the VFX does NOT have a sequencer. A very unfortunate
omission IMO. That sequencer is useful for lots more than just
sequencing, it's also useful for managing a complex MIDI system
in live situations.

2025.3 | ESQ-1 and Mirage DSK | HPSTEK::RENE | set profile/nopersonal_name | Fri Jun 16 1989 16:21 | 7 |
| I heard they were dropping the ESQ-1 and Mirage DSK. In fact I remember
seeing a blurb in KEYBOARD about winning the "last Mirage or ESQ-1
that rolled off the assembly line" a few months back. Yeah, I had tear
in my eye 8'^).

| Mirage for $995?? I've seen them going for $595 at LaSalles. I don't
believe this was the regular price. Even so, it was a tough deal to
pass up.

2025.5 | More Ensoniq Products upcoming | MISING::SFAFRAK | RISCy business... | Fri Jun 23 1989 18:48 | 12 |
| I just heard yesterday that Ensoniq is going to announce two new boards:
o VFX with a disk drive and a sequencer, I cannot remember what
they were going to call it (WFX? or maybe QFX?). The price was
going to be in the mid 2K range
o A watered down version of the VFX
Of course these could become vaporware like the rack mount version that was
supposed to be out immediately after the VFX.

2025.6 | Third Party ESQ Carts Being Discontinued | AQUA::ROST | Everyone loves those dead presidents | Tue Jan 09 1990 13:21 | 29 |
|
I just got the January 1990 issue of the Transoniq Hacker and there's
an article about the "maturing" (read rapidly approaching dinosaur
status) of the ESQ-1.
To make matters worse, a number of Hacker ads for ESQ carts/patches are
having closeout deals, with notices that there will be *no more carts
made* once existing stock is gone. Among them:
Maartists 800-832-2737
160 Voice EEPROM carts, loaded with patches, $49.95
20K sequencer expander cart $59.95
Eye and I (Voice Cystal) 408-945-0139
VC1, VC2, VC3 EEPROMs with patches, $40 each.
80 patch SQ-80 disk, $20. For next two months (3/90?) only
Patch Works Software (Q-Spectrum) 212-873-2390
160 voice ROM $59.95, 160 voice RAM (EE?) $94.95, two volumes each
Cassette, ST or SQ-80 disks $44.95, 2 volumes each or both for $79.95
Blank 160 voice EEPROM $84.95
Thoroughbred Music 800-634-4872
80 voice EEPROM carts $29.00
Looks like it's time to buy those patches/carts you've been thinking
about *now*.

2025.7 | Will they become PD? | NRADM::KARL | It's computerized, no thing c,an go wrong nothing c an g | Tue Jan 09 1990 13:43 | 7 |
| I wonder if the companies will consider these patch banks to be
public domain after they finally sell out of their stock? At that
point passing around patch banks won't affect them. I suppose they
might want the option of bringing them back on the market due to
public demand, or might not want them made PD for some other reason.

2025.8 | No PD Patches From Voice Crystal | AQUA::ROST | Everyone loves those dead presidents | Fri Feb 02 1990 14:14 | 14 |
|
I talked to the Voice Crystal people today and asked them about
availability of patches after they stop making carts.
They said they will *not* do one-off tapes or disks, period, once their
stock is depleted. They will *not* put their patches into the public
domain. They *will* provide patch data to existing customers, though.
If you are registered with them as a customer (i.e. you ordered direct
or filled out a warrnaty card) they will give you backup data for life
in case your cart goes south, etc. Seems reasonable.
Anyway, I guess that means buy those patches now, folks.

2025.9 | C-64 4sale, anyone ? | DOPEY::DICKENS | What are you pretending not to know ? | Mon Mar 05 1990 15:05 | 4 |
| Has anyone used the Valhalla ESQ patches ?
They have a C-64 patch/sequence librarian for $99, and will sell you all 757
Valhalla ESQ patches on C-64 floppy for $65. Gee, how much does a C-64 cost ?

2025.10 | Note 1764 On ESQ Patches | AQUA::ROST | Bikini Girls With Machine Guns | Mon Mar 05 1990 15:33 | 13 |
|
See 1764.23 on the Valhala patch set. I went ahead and ordered the
patch book as opposed to a disk ( I have an SQ-80) or cartridge for
money reasons. After programming in my first 40 patches, I'm glad I
did. The patches are not mind-blowing, but most are better than the
factory set. There are a lot of patches which are quite similar, for
instance I found two, OB-X and XPANDR which were identical in over 50%
of the parameters.
If you're in MA, I can loan you the demo tape so you can hear what the
patches sound like.

2025.11 | Maartists Carts Will Remain In Production | AQUA::ROST | Bikini Girls With Machine Guns | Tue Mar 20 1990 10:50 | 13 |
|
Re: .6
Just got off the phone with Maartists, trying to find out why my
cartridge hadn't arrived yet and they said they were "back-ordered". I
mentioned that the ad said they were discontinuing the cart, and only
current stock was available. They told me that they got so many orders
once they announced they were dropping it, that they wil be continuing
production for the foreseeable future.
Ah, the voice of the consumer is heard!!
