1955.0. "Roland MPU401 vs. MPUIPC" by CIMNET::CEFALU () Mon Apr 10 1989 13:18

    Hi,

        does anyone know the difference between Roland's MPU-401 and
    MPU-IPC.

                                 Thanx Guy.

    I think this may have been discussed somewhere else in this conference,
    but...

    I believe the only difference between them is that the MPU-401 is
    in a metal box, connected to the PC via a short cable (you have
    to buy a small card, MIF-IPC, to put in the PC). The MPU-IPC is
    a PC card with the guts of an MPU-401 on the card. There are
    connectors on the card that you hook up to your gear.

    The MPU-IPC probably has newer ROM firmware on it than most MPU-401s
    around... and you can only use it on a PC. With the right MIF-xxx
    card, you can use an MPU-401 on other computers (Apple II's come
    to mind)

    /Mitch.
