Distortion on a keyboard?. Shades of Peter Gabriel. Sounds like
a neat box though. And the price sounds more realistic than the
latest Yamaha spoutings for their V80 thingie (approx $2800?).
Too bad it's only 4 op.........................rich

I just checked one out at Alex Music. It actually sounds less
noisier than the previous 4op Yammies and IMHO has much better sounding
presets. Price is $825. 5 track sequencer. I'm sick of FM personally.

1926.3 | V50 pretty interesting | CHUNK::HENNESSY | | Fri Mar 24 1989 16:51 | 23 |

I was poking in a Manchester music store, got to hear/play with
a V50.
Some of the presets are very good. The percusion section has some
decent samples, and a couple of the demo disk pieces were good.
Other demo pieces did not sound right. With my novice ears it seemed
like the sounds were not very full, rounded, something.
The user interface is, compared to my TX81z, much improved.
After a few minutes I was hacking. The built-in effects seem
quite powerfull and do not seem to add noise.
One of my favorite tx81 voices is the performance chorused dynamite
EP. On the V50, with 16 notes, (2 tx81s) select 4 copies,
detune them, and of course only having 4 notes to play, WOW!
The keyboard is quite springy but I most definitely prefer
my MKB300.
The store wanted $1495, they claim the list is $1895.
Other items in the store had more realistic prices.

| So, what's the latest on the V50? Price? Availability? Support?
Not that I have any money (or even any time), but it sounds to me like a
starter system involving a V50, a U220, outboard FX and a mixer could be
a pretty hot ticket.
Steve (who would love to get back into it, once things settle down)

So, like, these are either selling well an' folks can't get enough of
'em, or they're being blown out or discontinued 'cause nobody wants
'em? Or, they are being discontinued because they would compete with
the higher priced stuff (like what they did to the TZ)?

| Hi Steve !
As you propably know YAMAHA introduced the SY22 and SY55, which are also in the
same price range. Even though I own a V50 I would recommend that you at least
evaluate the new ones. I have no reason to complain against the V50 especially
taking into account the actaul price/performance.
Concerning the external fx, I don't think it's necessary to have one, since the
V50 as well as the U220 have built fx. But you may have additional requirements.
best regards
Richard
