1922.0. "Rackmount (1 Space) Power Amplifiers" by FGVAXY::LAING (Soft-Core-Cuddler*Jim Laing*261-2194) Tue Feb 21 1989 10:37

    I'm looking to buy a new power amplifier to amplify my keyboards.
    Based on replies to a previous note of mine (note 1872) I've decided
    to go with a "pro" amp rather than one designed for a home stereo.

    One of my major interests is in light weight, small size ... I have
    enough heavy gear to lug around!

    I've found 4 single-space power amps so far ... I don't have alot
    of details on them, but here's what I know so far:

    1) Peavey DECA 528 - not available yet. Power rating stated as
       250w/ch into 4 ohms, 210w/ch into 8 ohms.  Size 1-3/4"x19"x14",
       weight about 12 pounds. No "attenuation" (volume?) controls.
       Has a fan.

    2) Ramsa (don't know model #), 55w/ch into 8 ohms, 1-3/4"x19"x??"

    3) QSC (don't know model #), ~50w/ch into 8 ohms, 1-3/4"x19"x??"

    4) Carver (don't know model #), 175 w/ch into ? ohms, one space.

For awhile I was considering getting the DECA 528 (when it came in)
    but now I hear Carver's got a new one-space amp of comparable power,
    so I thought I'd put the subject out there ... are there any other
    amps of one-rack=space? Any other things I need to consider, etc?

    RAMSA WP-9055 single rack 50W + 50W/8 ohms 2 channel power amplifier.
    I've been using one for my home studio for about 1 and 1/2 years. I
    like it alot. I use it to drive my JBL 4308's for monitoring and as my
    studio synth amp. Very clean. (rated at THD 0.05 or less, for 8 ohm
    load 20Hz to 20kHz) I paid around $300 for it. Here are some of the
    specs.

    * 50W + 50W (RMS) in 2 channel mode. (THD <= 0.05 8 ohms 20Hz to 20kHz)

    * 100W (RMS) in bridge mono mode. (THD <= 0.05 16 ohms 20Hz to 20kHz)

    * Electronic balanced circuits.

    * Single Rack space.

    * XLR-type (female) and 1/4" TRS phone jack inputs.

    * Remote monitor outputs provided on each channel.(Optional 4-pin nylon
    connector needed)

    * VI-type energy limiter protection. (voltage/current sensing
    protection circuit)

    * Dimensions: 18-7/8"(W) x 2-5/16"(H) x 13-1/8"(D)

    * Weight: approx. 19 lbs.

RE: .*

Second the RAMSA. Very clean. However, the price has gone up
recently. I think they can be had for about $395. I got mine
from Star Systems in Methuen (now part of The Music Workshop (?)
in Salem, NH).

1922.5Carver PM-100 - like it so far!FGVAXX::LAINGSoft-Core-Cuddler*Jim Laing*261-2194Mon Jul 10 1989 16:086
    I bought the Carver PM-100 about a month ago; paid $525 at Steve's
    Quality in Danvers, Mass. So far, I like it a lot: small, lightweight
    and PLENTY of power (For my needs). Have used it for DJ work as
    well as keyboard gigs ...
