1848.0. "Rumor: Yamaha DX/TX/RX Series Discontinued" by TROA01::HITCHMOUGH () Mon Jan 09 1989 16:58

    Don't know if there is another note that might be a better place,
    but just heard through the grapevine (a friendly dealer) that Yamaha
    are about to discontinue their DX range of products. He told me
    that a bog standard DX7 could probably be had for about $1195 Can
    when they start to off-load them.

    Can anyone confirm this..sounds like there may be opportunity for
    some bargains.

RE < Note 1848.0 by TROA01::HITCHMOUGH >

	The original DX7 was discontinued a year ago or so. The DX-100, it
seems has recently been discontinued. There may be others off the line. But
the DX series is still going strong with the DX7II and the DX11, with associated
rack-mount SGU's.

1848.2I doubted too.TROA01::HITCHMOUGHMon Jan 09 1989 22:028
    I hear you Dan. I am aware of the old DX7 being discontinued, but
    this guy said all DX (I think he inferred the TX also) will be stopped.
    He even gave me a price of $2400 (Canadian) for a DX7IIFD with E!.
    Maybe he's just been fired and is trying to get his own back, but
    he's usually trustworthy and gives good deals!!

    There is word that Yamaha will be announcing their follow on to
    FM at the forthcoming Frankfurt Music Messe. You can currently get
    a DX7s for 750 pounds and a TX802 for about 950. A used DX7 (1)can
    be had for 500 pounds which is what I would buy if I was going out
    gigging !

1848.4about timeNORGE::CHADIch glaube Ich tte Ich htteTue Jan 10 1989 08:4112
I can easily believe it. Yamaha hasn't had anything "groundbreaking" in
a long while. Maybe they can break out of the "FM" rut... Or maybe a
"new" more powerful "FM" implementation.

I was at a Y* clinic with a factory rep and even though the breath controller
was impressive (the BC-2) , nothing else really impressed me that much. None
of the demos impressed me like the Roland rom demos on D and U 110 (the
U 110 I heard much afterward though), and the K1, M1 and S550 demos
at Wurlygig.

1848.5Besides, I want a 6-op DX someday...NRPUR::DEATONTue Jan 10 1989 09:576
	I could see Yamaha adding a new line of gear, but it seems to me that
FM Synthesis has NOT seen a decline in usage. I think they'd be fools to
drop all DX's.

1848.6No replacements.TROA01::HITCHMOUGHTue Jan 10 1989 10:027
    FWIW the sales guy also mentioned that they're probably not even
    going to be announcing anything as a replacement in the upcoming
    NAMM show. I think I'll call him back and get some sort of
    confirmation.

1848.7We'll know in a few weeks, eh?DYO780::SCHAFERBrad - back in Ohio.Tue Jan 10 1989 12:108
    The word I have from several *very reliable* sources is to expect some
    pretty radical changes (read: drops) in prices and lots of scrambling
    after NAMM. Rumor has it that a few of the big boys are going to
    release some pretty nifty (and inexpensive [right]) products.

    Still breathing,

    Some more info on the discontinuation; It seems that they may not
    be announcing anything at NAMM, but after, will be releasing something
    called a DX7000, no idea what it is but I hear that it will be a
    fill in for about a year until they release some really new products.

    BTW, the info I'm getting is that DX, TX and RX products are being
    discontinued, not just DX.

    I hope this is all true, 'cos I'll feel bl**dy stupid if he's having
    me on!!

1848.10Another variant on the rumour...43014::WALTONGroupies apply here...Tue Feb 14 1989 19:568
	Just found this note. I heard a few weeks ago from a dealer here
(Reading, England) that all of the DX7 series were to be discontinued, and
they were running down stock. I asked him about the rack mount stuff, and
he thought that wasn't to be discontinued...

	Seems pretty strange to me too...

1848.11It seems to live...WEFXEM::COTE$37K, look like ya sister tonite...Wed Feb 15 1989 08:277
    From the new issue of Aftertouch, it seems that only the name "DX"
    is being discontinued. Their new products are still carrying the
    4 and 6 op architecture.

    And why do all the new products look like the dashboard in an Escort?

1848.12TX-1P on its way out too...CLULES::SPEEDGrass grows greener after the fireThu Feb 16 1989 12:259
    It looks like the TX-1P piano module is being discontinued too, with no
    obvious replacement. They didn't announce anything at NAMM to replace
    it.

    I missed the $400 deal at Daddy's by a day. Major depression. If
    anyone sees a deal on them, let me know. Best price I got was $627 at
    Sam Ash.
