1778.2 | See 'aftertouch outtalunch' note, too | MARVIN::MACHIN | | Wed Nov 23 1988 06:56 | 7 |
| You must be able to set up the value for aftertouch somehow -- perhaps
it's set too low.
On the other hand, if it uses conductive rubber to sense key pressure,
maybe it's knackered.
Richard.

1778.3 | I even think I wrote it... | WEFXEM::COTE | Sing with the clams, knave! | Wed Nov 23 1988 08:37 | 4 |
| I bleeves that "Aftertouch Outtalunch" note was in reference to
the *YAMAHA* (I have no fear of that word!) user rag....

1778.4 | Characteristic of Roland boards. | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad - back in Ohio. | Wed Nov 23 1988 16:37 | 7 |
| I've played several pieces of Roland gear that exhibit this same
tendency - you have to press like mad to get any modulation at all.
I doubt that it's electronically adjustable - a good keyboard tech
*might* be able to tweak it, but I wouldn't bet on it.

| Looks like I have to tear it apart to check the mechanics, maybe
the conductive rubber is replaceable??

1778.6 | | MARVIN::MACHIN | | Fri Nov 25 1988 05:54 | 4 |
| No insult intended -- but have you checked the after response value
on the patch(es) you're using?
Richard.

1778.7 | Adjustable After Touch??? | STKSMA::HALL | Take care of your MIDI | Fri Nov 25 1988 11:20 | 10 |
| Eh.. didn't know that after touch response was adjustable. I know
velocity is but I think after touch is just a MIDI stream indicating
how hard you press the key(s) after hit. I'll go home and read the
(very poorly written) manual once more.
BTW, I dont have any cartridge yet so I'm not able to create any
pacthes, I use it as it is when powered up.

1778.8 | IF LFO, often turned down to stop accidental mod | MARVIN::MACHIN | | Fri Nov 25 1988 11:39 | 5 |
| What I meant was, I expect each patch decides whether aftertouch
modulates LFO, DCA or DCF, and how much. Worth checking the 'how
much' value.
Richard.

1778.9 | Another MKB-200, this one is not so difficult to trigger | HPSRAD::NORCROSS | | Sun Nov 27 1988 13:12 | 9 |
| I use an MKB-200. I bought it new last Spring. I would not say that it
needs body weight to trigger the aftertouch. It does take a wrist
push.
My indicators are a set of LEDs which light when the aftertouch is
triggered - so I can see exactly when it's triggered without
relying on how the patches were programmed.

1778.10 | After touch is hard..... | STKSMA::HALL | Take care of your MIDI | Mon Nov 28 1988 10:20 | 10 |
| Yeah, I also use visual display (Yamaha MJC8 Patch Bay) and those
little MIDI output LED's say blink at note on, then I press harder
and harder.... and when my elbow can't handle more (or I think the
plastic key will break) the Aftertouch stream shows up on the LED.
As I read from all your good replies (thank you) I believe this
is not normal to this kind of board. I'll have to check it out more.

Every roland keyboard Ive played has ok action.
AND is an insult to your technique when you try
to get some aftertouch....
AFTERSQUASH, AFTERMEGAPRESS, AFTERMUSCLETONER....
those are probably trademarks of Roland.
what a shame!

1778.12 | Aftertouch Sensitivity is the Key | DRUMS::FEHSKENS | | Thu Dec 01 1988 10:34 | 6 |
| You gotta set the sensitivity parameters right. Uhm, you don't
want the aftertouch to feel mushy, otherwise you can't tell between
the velocity part of the action and the aftertouch.
