1754.0. "Yamaha DX27 FM Synth - LOCAL OFF Procedure" by AQUA::ROST (You've got to stop your pleading) Tue Nov 01 1988 09:25
This arrived over USENET last night. DX-27 owners should be
interested!! I think there is a typo, however, when he discusses the
procedure to set LOCAL OFF, he descibes the readout replying LOCAL ON
(which is the default?) then by recycling power "everything returns to
normal". Note the software rev disclaimer at the end of the note. With
that warning, go ahead and have fun....

Ok, so you've got your 27 and a seq' and you're ready to let rip
when horror of horrors! You find that if you program a sequence to play
your 27 and then play-back-and-record using the 27 as the master kybd,
what happens is that the new stuff you're playing comes out of the 27's
audio aswell as the other piece of kit you had MIDI'd up to play the second
sequence. This is confusing to say the very least. What you need is
what MIDI calls LOCAL OFF. L.O. means you transmit MIDI when you press
keys but the connection between keys and 27's audio out is broken. I.e:
27 will ignore what you're playing and only play what's coming over the
MIDI-in.
There's nothing in the manule about LOCAL-OFF though so what can you do??
What you do is thank the lord for people like me 'cause whilst messing
with 27 I found an undocumented way of setting LOCAL-OFF mode!!!!!
What you do is:
Switch off 27.
Hold down patch keys 2 and 7 (27, geddit?)
Switch on.
You'll get a read out like:
Local mode : on
To re-set to Local-mode = off just switch off and then back on and
it's like nothing ever happened.
Be careful though 'cause other combinations of keys exist which do other
stuff, not the least being the system (and patch reset) documented in
the manual. Moral: read the manual before you try to do anything clever.
There's another set of key-presses which show what version of the
software is on your 27. I forget the keys, but my 27 is version 1.0,
April 1986.
Hope that's useful...

| You do realize that if this procedure (or a similar one) works on
my DX-21 you will be solely responsible for me purchasing a merge
box.
How come info always costs me money?
