1745.0. "Recommendation - Roland JX3P, JX8P, JUNO106, JUNO2" by AIMHI::BERDAT () Fri Oct 28 1988 11:39

    	I know am probably repeating an old topic (forgive me), but
    	I am interested in a second syth. I currently own a Casio
    	CZ5000 and am looking for some good analog (like Rolands)
    	to accomidate my appetite. I am looking at the JUNO 106,JX3P,
    	JX8P, and Juno 2.

    	I looked at a JX3P last night. It came with the PG 200 programmer
    	and was priced at $450. Is this too much money? Also can somebody
    	give me a brief description of each synth I mentioned so I can
    	better understand exactly what I am looking for. I guess I
    	would like to spend anywhere from $400-$600.

    	Thanks for your help,

    	Bob

    $450 for a JX3-P with PG-200 would be a *fair* (mediocre) deal if
    it came with a hardshell case and the ROM upgrade for OMNI off and
    velo-sensing.

    It's a 2 oscilator (DCO) unit supporting 3 waves on DCO-1 and 4
    on DCO-2. Classic ADSR envelope controls both oscillators. On
    board chorus. 1 LFO, routeable. No LFO wheel. Transposable over
    1 octave.

    Of the 4 you mentioned, this is probably the least versatile. That
    does not mean it's no good. It's early technology.

    I had one on perma-loan for over a year and loved it. So much so
    that when I had to return it I immediately went out and bought the
    MKS-30 (JX3-P rack mount).

    Dont forget the Chroma Polaris. A good analog synth/kbd controller.
    They dont make them any more (Fender) so you can pick them up pretty
    cheap. I've seen one in Canada for $500 Canadian.

    	Would the Juno 106 be a better deal if I could pick one up for
    around $350?

RE < Note 1745.3 by AIMHI::BERDAT "IROC-N-ROLL" >

	As a fellow lover of analog (particularly Roland's flavor), I'd
recommend either the Juno 106 or the JX8P. I have owned both at one time or
another (long story) and found both to be wonderful instruments.

	$350 for the J106 is a very good deal (as long as it's in good shape).
If you want velocity sensitivity, though, spring for the JX-8P. You should be
able to find one for around $600.
