1718.0. "MIDIed Pipe Organ at U of PA" by AQUA::ROST (Canned ham, that's for me) Tue Oct 11 1988 22:12
Please excuse this if it belongs in another topic, but I did a
directory of "organ" and found nothing too suitable.
It came in on USENET. This certainly sounds interesting.

Subject: Re: Does this device exist?

Organization: University of Pennsylvania
This device exists: CODI, the Curtis Organ Digital Interface
The University of Pennsylvania is home to the 161 rank Curtis Organ
which contains 10,791 individual speaking pipes. The instrument is
vintage 1926 and works on an electro-pneumatic action.
Each of the four manuals, the pedals, five independent swell shades,
and all registration is now MIDI interfaced by an exclusive system
developed here called CODI. As the organist plays,
his actions are sent out over MIDI. As MIDI data is received, as
from a sequencer, the performance is recreated exactly.
Now the arm-chair quaterbacks of organ music can have their way
by replaying a piece by a skilled musician while setting their own
registration. The original performer won't even comment on it. :-)
By the way, we're currently using a Mac SE running the Performer
software as our sequencer. I'm looking forward to seeing the famed
Finale program do a little real-time, four manual, music transcription.
If you would like to know more about the system, the organ, or what
we are doing with the whole thing, please let me know and I'll respond
individually.

P.S. We have just released an all digital CD recording of classical
music performed on the Curtis Organ. To bad we didn't have
CODI operational during the recording sessions to include the
MIDI data on the CD.
