Same here. But since I use the 800 number there is no charge for the
call, so why should he be expected to call back and run up his phone bill?
Are you using 800-637-6863?

| Shane returned my call once - when he knew I was gonna buy something
and had money at the ready. And I've done business with them for years
(so don't feel singled out).
Here's the bottom line: Shane and Bruce (Barr, his boss) are the only
two people in the keyboard dept at Profound. They have been
experiencing lots of hassles lately. (For example, a water main broke
directly under their floor and literally filled their entire store with
water - and the supermarket across the way from them as well. Took 'em
two weeks to dry out.) Over and above all that, they're just plain
busy. Imagine LaSalles with only 2 kybd reps.
You might try saying "Look, I've called 3 times and haven't gotten any
response yet. I'm willing to take my business somewhere else."
Or you could ask for Bruce after giving the schpeil in the previous
paragraph.

Thanks, Dan, it does... at least I know it's NOT just me...
I started price shopping for my latest toys on Tuesday. Profound was
the first place I called. I've been calling at least three times a day
since then -- Shane's never available, there's never anybody else I who
can help me -- I've left four messages, including one this morning
stating simply, "I just want to place an order!" As of a few minutes
ago, I now have bids from ALL of the other suppliers on my list (about
a dozen), and I'm ready to make a purchase. The question is: in light
of this treatment, is it REALLY worth the hassle to hear Profound's bid?
Perhaps not having my calls returned would be less annoying if the
polite and cheerful receptionist simply said, "Could you try again
later?" Continually offering to take messages and assuring me that
they'll be returned is simply rubbing salt in the wound. I know Shane
was out of town one day this week (I think it was Wednesday), but does
their business really grind to a halt when that happens?
Can't help wondering: will I have this much trouble reaching them if I
have a problem with something I buy from them?
Of course, as I consumer, I have only one recourse: They have 'til
5:00PM -- then LaSalle's gets my money... (They're only 5% over
Musician's Co-op on a purchase of $900.00, and I'll gladly pay that
much extra to trade locally.)
I'll let you know what happens...

| Shane has never returned a call, as far as I can remember. But,
I've always gotten good service from him. And, he's really busy,
but he never forgot what I needed. I'll still make him the first
I call on my next purchases because I know I can TRUST him, and
he has always tried to give me the best price.

| Well, Profound does seem to have a loyal following here, and that
speaks very highly of them. My problem is: never having done business
with them before, I'm baffled as to how any conscientious consumer
could tolerate this behaviour. So, my question remains: After a week
of phoning three times a day without success, would YOU persevere?
Admittedly, this is now a hypothetical question; I'm just curious as
to whether I should consider Profound for my next such purchase (which
won't come along for some time, I'm afraid)...

| I can sympathsize. I've pretty much given up on Profound, personally. I had
the same problem with them not having prices readily available and promising
to call back. They never did call back, though. I have had extremely good
luck with Caruso's Music in Connecticut and prices were very competitive.
If you plan on dealing with Profound, and you somehow manage to get ahold
of Shane, you had better just place your order on the spot. Apparently,
business is either so good that they can't handle it all, or so bad that they
don't give a hoot and are busy with other outside activities.

1661.10 | ProFound News. | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad - back in Ohio. | Tue May 23 1989 17:21 | 13 |
| I just got off the phone with Shane. The reason for the lack of phone
return calls was due to several slight shake ups at ProFound, not the
least of which was becoming "computerized" (not to mention that Shane
was the only phone salesman that ProFound had until just a few weeks
ago).
I told Shane about the not-so-nice reviews that they were getting, and
he asked me to apologize to the conference for him (since he can't).
You should be getting better response now - just make sure you tell him
that you work for Digital Equipment, or use my name (not in vain).

| Yet another ProFound update ... Shane quit. There evidently was some
misunderstanding (nice evasive term) and they parted company.
Anyway, they've supposedly hired a few new people and response is much
better now (they even return phone calls!). When you call, ask for
Byron Stout, and use my name. Make sure you tell them you're from
Digital Equipment Corp and that you heard about them in this
conference.

I also asked for a quote on a certain guitar and they said they
will look into it and call back. Guess what?
They never called!
