1641.0. "Anyone Still Using a Yamaha CX5M Computer?" by RDGENG::JEWELL () Tue Aug 23 1988 13:08

Okay, here's a message from the grave ..

Does any one out there still own or even use the Yamaha
    CX5 ??

Mine is still the mainstay of my MIDI system, but I must
admit, I am starting to find it a bit limited. At the moment I
only have the Microcomposer software and the Voicing software.

Does anyone out there have any sequencers, voice data or
useful info they are prepared to part with ??

In an ideal world, I would like to upgrade, but money is
    *tight* at the moment.

P.s. Its the old SFG01 model.

    Tony.

    Tony,

I still have mine (actually it's a Toshiba MSX computer with an SFG05
    attached).

I use it both as an SGU (Sound Generating Unit) and as an editor for
my DX-7. I can't see me ever getting rid of it (they're worth next to
nothing second-hand or traded in, and besides it still does what I
    bought it for :-) )

Nice to know I'm not alone !

    Cheers,

    Derek.

P.S. You've still got yours lurking in a dusty corner of the attic haven't
     you pk ??

Ack. Add another to the list of users.

Mine still acts as a MIDI recorder.

(Last time my father visited I sat him at the KX88 and let the CX5
record him - he played dance bands in north africa in the 30s ...
great way to capture his arrangements ...)

pk sent me a ROM based sequencer for it (a year or more ago?) but the
ROM self destructed about 3 months ago.

I also found out that you can get the SFG-05/01 ROM BIOS manual from
Yamyam - wrote a quick patch randomizer for the TX81Z.

Sometimes it gets used for it's voices too (useful having the SFG05
    ROM installed).
