1567.0. "MAC+sequencer+printer+MIDI??" by BENTLY::EVANS () Mon Jul 25 1988 22:52

Can anyone tell me if this kind of product exists at all??

There are a few of us MIDIots in sunny Ca that own MACs and currently
have ConcertWare simply because it does *sortof* everything in
one package. It scores (....urggg, well....) and sequences (again,
uummmmmmhhh...) and it's fairly easy to use for the novice MIDI
    musician (read that, non-performing!!)

Personally, I "tink" -- 1 finger on keyboard, other hand on mouse....
that sort of thing. No... I do not consider myself a composer. Yes,
    I am broke.

Brass Tacks time: I want a program (prefer 1, not 2 or 3) that can
interface to my keyboard (whatever it is), capture the notes I play,
and let me edit the score appearance, and play it all back.... I
don't care if it's a sequencer style approach (ala MTP or Opcodes
Sequencer), but I do MIND ALOT having to sequence (PERIOD), export,
and then edit, re-import (if that even can be done...) and re-sequence.
Or, to make sure I'm saying it clearly, I just want all the tools,
I'll make sure the notes "look" OK, and sequence OK - I don't need
all this cross checking to make certain that notes "behave". And
I want it all inside one program (anyone see Xerox PARC's
    Mockingbird!!!??)

I've looked at DMCS, Opcode Sequencer (convince me this is a good
    choice, please??!!), I have ConcertWare+MIDI, I've looked a Pro
Performer (yow!! $$$) and other musical mouse things don't interest
me. I could not examine Finale or Master Tracks Pro (but would really
like too!!!!). I'm not sure if it's really worth the wait for this
    vaporware "Coda" (besides - $1000 !!!! <gasp>)

If anyone would like to convince me that Finale or MTP is the right
choice, ComputerWare in Palo Alto Calif will let you run the S/W
on their MAC+MIDI system, or we have a choice of 2 MIDI setups
    also (MAC II+D-10, or MACPlus+PF80).

It is important that this s/w runs on a MAC II - DMCS does NOT.
It's a pretty high priority that the s/w also be good at sequencing
    and printing.

Thanks for all the info in advance!!

There really isn't *a* package that does what you want unless you're
willing to spend the big $$$. Finale comes to mind, at around $1k a
    crack.

For a sequencer package, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one
than MTP (like Mitch said). In spite of several nit-picky gripes, I
think the thing is VERY nice. It does NOT score music, but it DOES
produce "standard" MIDI files. I would think any good scoring program
would be able to read them. I think Passport is also coming out with a
pretty nice scoring program. Seeing as they wrote MTP, the files
    should be immediately readable.

    Good luck.

Tecchies at both E-Mu Systems and Kurzweil have raved about the
upcoming version of Finale, saying that it's the sequencer/scoring
    combo to beat.. FWIW.
