1525.1Which Chip Do You Want...NCVAX1::ALLENTue Jul 12 1988 18:5729
I don't have a listing of the actual sounds, but I have heard both
    chips. Here are some impressions:

The Rock/Heavy Metal chip is the one used in the R-50e. A friend
has an "e" and we goofed around with both playing through a big
Marshall PA the other day. The sounds on the "e" chip seemed to
me to be a bit more dynamic than the standard R-50 sounds. There
are a lot of ATOMIC KICKs, TOMs and SNAREs, and various Gated and
Flanged permutations of these. There are also ORCHESTRA HITS and
BASS HITS which for my needs are kind of a waste since I have a
competent synth. I did like the drum sounds, though I would probably
not buy the chip for $100.00 or whatever they're asking.

The Jazz/Fusion chip is even better. This one has a lot of Latin
percussion like GUIRA and MARACAS (?) and TRIANGLE. I liked the
variety on this one a lot better and think it would complement the
standard R-50 chip a whole lot better than the "e" chip. However,
I am still not crazy about spending over $100.00 on one.

BTW, although these chips have new sounds they still appear to use
the same PATTERNS as the original machine. This makes for some
    neat, but often bizarre patterns.

I suspect that you could get a complete listing of the sounds available
    on the chips from KAWAI.
