| Hi Dan. I have an ST and 2 TX7s, so I hope these answers apply.
>Editors & Librarians
Paul Kent (MINDER::KENT, who hits this conference periodically) uses
Steinberg's DX patch editor, and seems to like it a great deal. Dr.T's
and Hybrid Arts also offer 6op FM editors for the DXes. These allow
you to not only edit patches, but also organize individual patches by
bank. (Not owning an editor program, I can only parrot the opinions of
others.)
There are SYSEX dumper utilities available that are very convenient,
even though they have no editing capabilities. There is a program put
out by a Michigan based company called Omni-Banker ST (was advertised
in Keyboard a few issues back) that is a generic patch dumper that
allows you to arrange patches among banks. It was something like $60
or so.
There is also an ST utility that I use called BULKDUMP (written by
Steph Bailey - CANDID::STEPH) that does straight and simple SYSEX
dumps. It doesn't afford the ability to move patches between dumps,
and it has no editing capabilities, but it is very solid software. You
will need to talk to him to get a copy of this.
>PD patches
I have a library of around 5000 (including duplicates) patches in
32-patch SYSEX banks online. Copy them to your local VAX and use
Kermit, XMODEM, or some such thing to get them to your ST. I also
have directory listings of all patch banks.
To get directory listings, look in:
DYO780::DISK$USER05:[SCHAFER.PUBLIC.DX7]*.LIS
To get SYSEX dumps, look in the subdir corresponding to the .LIS file
name, as follows:
[.DX7_A], [.DX7_B], [.DX7_C], [.USENET], [.UKPATCH]
Good luck.

| Incidentally, I was hoping this note would flush P.K. out from the
Northern climes. Still there, Paul? If not, anyone know if he
left me his TX802?
Richard.

| He has been a quiet sort lately, hasn't he? Whatsa matter, pk? They
threaten you with going to IOSG if you didn't stop noting?
I support ALL-IN-1, so I can talk like this.

Gee, hadn't really thought about it. How about Bradelia? Darby?
Any other suggestions?

me (the wife still has hers).
Good grief.

ECTUALLY (COLLOQUIALISM), I have been sunning my brown little behind
in the warmer climes of the mediterreanian. I got back 3 days ago
but it has taken me till now to get up to date with the notes. You
chaps are certainly prolific. Sort of like Paul McCartney but with
taste.
As to the Topic. I have the Steinberg Editor which is compatible
with all the DX7 (6 op) based synths and is the best thing since
sliced bread. But the you get all that Digitial Noise with sliced
bread. Perhaps I was overeating the wrong sample or was that
oversampling the wrong eatable.
As well as great editing features it also has an excellent library
into which I have inserted all the aforementioned patches.
Comes with the Peekay seal of approval.
Paul.
