1459.0. "Revox Half Track Tape Deck?" by IAMOK::CROWLEY (ere lies David St. 'ubbins, and why not!) Wed Jun 15 1988 09:15

Looking through the Want Ad this week, there's several
Revox A-77 1/2 track decks for sale. Anybody have any
info on these decks? I've heard of the B-77, but never
seen an A-77 and have no idea what they're like.
Any reasons to stay away from, or go with one?

Now I'm really confused....upon further inspection of the want
ad, one of these decks is listed as a 1/2 track, one as a 2 track,
and one as a 1/4 track! Anyone know if this beast is a 1/2 track
    or 1/4 track???

First there was the A-77, then the B-77 (which still might be made,
I'm not sure) and then the PR-99. They were available in many different
configurations, like different speeds, reel size support, etc. You
want one that can do 15 ips and has NAB hubs for 10 1/2" reels.
Unfortunately, there are a lot around that only do 7" reels and
7 1/2 ips. They were for home use and language labs and the like.
It was a pretty popular deck, so heads and transport parts are still
    readily available.

    Good luck,

Like I said, they were available in many configurations. You have
to be sure that the one you're looking at is exactly what you want.

Too bad you can't afford a used Tascam 32 or Otari MX5050.

I'd love to get my hands on an Otari, or even the Tascam, but
all these Revox's that popped up this week grabbed my attention.
All three A-77's were under $500, and there was a B77 MKII
for $1200....but at that price, I'd probably go the extra bucks
for one of the other two decks. I was just curious about the
A-77 as they were so cheap. Suppose I'd get what I pay for.....

    I have an A-77 and it's 1/4 track. It's 7 1/2 IPS 10" reels.
    Good Solid Deck... Scott.
