| Emile Tobenfeld, I believe. (or is it Tobenfield). Lives in
Watertown. In any case, Tom, he wrote an article in Computer Music
Journal, so you should be able to look it up!

| Yeah, he seems like a real interesting guy from what I've read in
a couple of interviews. Also, when I first bought the KCS for my
C-64 I had a couple of problems with it and was able to get help
over the phone right away. The person I spoke with (could have been
Emile himself, I don't think the company is that big) was very helpful
and even took time to talk about what the company was doing and
listen to my "wish list". In general, their software is a bit outside
the mainstream, and he likes to allow real-time control of the
sequencer, which I really appreciate.

| I've known Emile casually for about eight years, even before he
became "Dr. T". We used to go to a free form dance cooperative
at the Joy of Movement Center called Dance Friday. He was one of
the people who regularly made dance tapes. His tapes were always, well,
uh...different. Strange rhythms, and generally considered impossible
to dance to, to the point where people would call up to make sure
his tapes *weren't* playing on any particular night.:-)
I remember a few years ago seeing a Dr. T's ad, and noticed his
name. I'd known he was into computers, but I didn't know he was
into music s/w, or (which surprised me more, actually) that he had
gotten it together to start his own company.
He still regularly attends Dance Friday (9:00 every Friday nite,
23 Main St, $3, no booze, no smoke, no shoes, free juice). I saw
him there a coupla months ago, after I had been using his sequencer
for a while. We talked a bit about his work. He was really excited
about his Algorithmic Composer s/w, and that seemed to be the thrust
of his personal research. It was interesting to talk to him "with
different eyes".
Emile_of_the_shorts_and_dashiki_and_really_strange_dance_tapes was now
"Dr. T". A *very* interesting guy.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm........syncronicity.
I met Emile at a Lacoda (sp?) Souix sweat lodge cerimony with
some other new friends a few months back. Interesting guy.
The lodge tends to bring out inner feelings/problems that you
normally wouldnt surface.
Some stress was involved for him around the business, and concern
about focussing so much time on it, as many business owners do.
Anyone know what Im talking about?
(Screaming amps on 10 with the wammy bar at 2000 ft, ya know?)

Several years ago, prior to Dr. T days, my ex and I lived
downstairs from him in Watertown. He and my wife had a running
feud over his 2:00 a.m. recording sessions. She called the cops
on him several times.
I hope success has made him a better person. I wouldn't mention
that you know me if you ever meet Emile. When Sherri learned that
he's now likely a millionaire, she remarked that "There's no justice
in this world" :^).

Now, Edd, I was a responsible engineering student in those days!
Of course, an Acoustic 301 cabinet on it's back driven with a few
hundred watts once displaced the second floor of the building by
several inches...but that's a story for another day.
