| Best wishes to you, Rick. By the way, this may be a good opportunity
to get the DECMS involved with "Field Test" of new/improved products.
We certainly have the user base ...
In any event, enjoy your new job.

| When you get some pull, Richard, whyncha persuade Kurzweil to a)
get that $50 1000nn MAC editor to market, and then use it as a medium
to distribute lots of fun sounds on floppy for the 1000 series.
E-Mu Systems is making a mint on their library !
Best of luck. It's great to couple computers and music, isn't it?

music. Not to mention employee discounts and benefits (sure I have
a VT100 and a modem at home, but I'd rather have a PX 1000).

well, gee, sounds *wonderful*.
Realistically, tho, it's yet another software engineering position.
And, the emphasis is on Engineering. With the usual pressure to
meet milestones (maybe MORE, cause you gotta be ready for NAMM)
Sounds glamorous. Have fun!
And say hi to Ray for me.
Tell him I do occasionally wonder what it would have been like
if I had accepted his offer as a co-founder way back when.
Its all in what you want to do! Make the most of it!

1401.12 | another one bites the dust | BINKLY::WINSTON | Jeff Winston (Hudson, MA) | Thu Jan 05 1989 17:09 | 25 |
| Although I've been "Read-only" here for a while now, just thought I'd
mention that I am also leaving DEC (on very good terms) to work for
Kurzweil Music, designing VLSI chips for their next generation
keyboards. (Filling the vacancy left by Larry Bodony, who left there
on good terms to bigger and better things - though that's another
story).
I do plan to be on USENET (a personal account, until I can convince
Kurzweil of the benefits of being connected), and will post my net
address when available.
So, if any of you want me to carry any "essential messages" with me -
drop me mail before 1/20.
I have enjoyed my 8 1/2 years here. I appreciate the learning,
camaraderie, and personal support so freely given by many in these
notesfiles, and I hope to stay in contact with the friends I have made
here.
Keep the faith
/j
{now if I can just get someone to set up a batch-extract-and-send-
on-USENET job for this notesfile}

re .12 Good luck and ENJOY !!!
The only "Essential message" I'd like you to carry is that
I'd prefer to see them keep features/functions/performance about where
they are and reduce price over time vs increasing f/f/p over time for
the same price, i.e. next generation PX1000 would be real nice at
$500, I'd probably buy one - though something with 4x the f/f/p still
priced at $2K I'd continue to leave alone.

| If that's biting the dust, may my mouth be forever dusty.
The way things are going here at DEC, I've been a step away from
sending my resume there for about 6 months now.
It is truly a great blessing to be able to combine your love
of music with your training and make good money doing it. I'm
envious.

btw, there's another ex-Deccie/Commusic'er there to say hello to.
His name is Rick Cohen, and tell him I said "hi".

Mike,
I don't know if Kurzy needs one but I suggest that you send
your resume to Roland. ;-)

1401.20 | Writing synth manuals: a dream come true! | LOLITA::DIORIO | | Fri Jan 06 1989 16:25 | 11 |

Not a bad idea, Dave. I could just have you and Len, and everyone
else in here tell me what was wrong, and I could just fix it. You
guys could review it thoroughly, and the manuals would be excellent!
You (and all other) Roland owners would benefit, and so would I (would
be a hell of a lot more interesting to write about than what I'm doing
now).
Only one thing wrong: the commute would be murder ;-) !!

part of the K250 I did the test equipment and diagnostic work. Don't let
them burn you out.
